Kenya Met warns of strong winds and rainfall in several counties on Saturday, December 13

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a weather alert warning of rainfall and strong winds expected in several counties on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
According to KMD, rainfall and showers are expected over a few places in the Northeastern, Northwestern, and Southeastern Lowlands and the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley.

Some areas are also likely to experience afternoon thunderstorms, while isolated counties are expected to see morning rains.
Counties within the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, such as Kakamega, Kisumu, Kisii, Kericho, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Bungoma, Siaya, Migori, Homabay, and Bomet, are forecast to experience showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Laikipia, and Nyandarua, residents should expect partly cloudy nights, sunny intervals in the morning, and isolated afternoon showers.

Strong winds warning
KMD also cautioned about strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 metres per second) over Turkana and Marsabit counties.
The department advised residents to secure loose property and exercise caution, particularly in open and arid areas where strong winds may reduce visibility or affect outdoor activities.
In the North Eastern counties of Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, and Isiolo, isolated showers are expected at night and in the afternoon, with some morning rainfall.

In the South Eastern Lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, sunny intervals in the morning will be followed by isolated afternoon showers.
Along the coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, and Tana River, partly cloudy conditions are expected at night, with sunny intervals in the morning and occasional afternoon showers, particularly in the South Coast.
