Kenya Met forecasts dry spell with pockets of rain and cold nights till September 7

According to the seven-day weather forecast issued by the Kenya Meteorological Service Authority, valid from September 1, 2026 to September 7, 2026, most parts of the country are expected to be generally dry.
Expected rainfall and cold conditions
While dry conditions will feature across many regions, a few locations will still experience light precipitation. The meteorological agency notes that “some parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Meru, Nyeri, Murang’a, Laikipia, Nakuru and Kilifi Counties are likely to receive rainfall.”
For those living in the Central Highlands, Nairobi, and parts of the South Rift, chilly and overcast mornings will remain common early in the week.
The weatherman explains that “occasional cool and cloudy conditions are expected in some parts of Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Nakuru, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita/Taveta Counties in the first half of the forecast period.”
Alongside the morning cloud cover, night temperatures are set to drop significantly in high-altitude zones.
The report warns that “night-time (minimum) average temperatures are expected to be less than 10°C in some parts of Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Embu, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru and Narok Counties.”
Forecast data indicates Nyahururu will experience the lowest night temperatures, dipping to 4.0°C, while Kitale, Narok, and Eldoret will see minimums of 8.0°C and 9.0°C.
High day temperatures and past weather review
In contrast, high daytime temperatures will dominate several low-altitude and northern counties.
The report states that “daytime (maximum) average temperatures of more than 30°C are expected several counties including Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia and Turkana.”
Mandera is set to record a peak daytime maximum of 39.0°C, followed by Lodwar at 37.0°C and Kisumu at 34.0°C.
This upcoming weather pattern comes after a largely dry period recorded between August 24, 2026 and August 30, 2026. During that review week, Mandera Meteorological Station recorded the highest daily maximum temperature of 38.6°C on August 26, 2026.
Conversely, Nyahururu Meteorological Station recorded the lowest daily minimum temperature of 3.7°C on August 29, 2026.
Kericho Meteorological Station registered the highest seven-day rainfall total of 41.0 mm, with 40.8 mm falling within a 24-hour period on August 24, 2026.
