Journalist Nick Kosgey among victims in helicopter crash that killed Johana Ng’eno

The media fraternity is mourning the loss of Nick Kosgey, a talented journalist and photographer, who perished alongside Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament (MP) Johana Ng’eno in the tragic helicopter crash in Nandi County.
In a statement issued by Bomet governor Hillary Barchok on Saturday, February 28, 2026, he revealed that Kosgey was part of Ng’eno’s media team.
Barchok further expressed deep sorrow over Kosgey’s passing.
According to the governor, Kosgey, who hailed from Kipkebe Village, Silibwet Township Ward in Bomet Central Sub-County, was a bright and energetic young man whose life, though short, left a lasting impact.
“Quite saddened to learn that among those who passed on in the ill-fated helicopter crash in Nandi County was a talented son of Bomet, a young man, Nick Kosgey, who did his internship in our Communications Department in 2023,” Barchok’s statement reads.
“Nick was the energetic and creative force behind Hon Ngeno’s media team. He hailed from Kipkebe Village, Silibwet Township Ward in Bomet Central Sub-County.”

Career in media
In addition, Barchok disclosed that Kosgey began his media career during an internship in 2023 at the County Government Communications Department, where he quickly distinguished himself as a versatile and hard-working professional.
He excelled in writing, bilingual reporting, editing, broadcasting, and photography, approaching every task with creativity and dedication.
!”Nick Kosgey, who did his internship in our Communications Department in 2023. He was then a student at Maseno University, where he was also the chief editor of the Maseno University student magazine,” he said.
“At the County Government Nick distinguished himself as a go-getter. He dabbled up in writing, bilingual reporting, editing, broadcasting and photography. He would do it all. He was never one to put his talent to waste.”

He added that his outstanding work soon caught the attention of Ng’eno, who brought him onto her team as her personal photographer, adding that he became the creative force behind the MP’s media presence, producing impactful photos and short videos that documented her engagements.
“His standout work soon caught the attention of Hon. Johanna Ngeno, who snapped him up from the county Government and employed him as his personal photographer,” Barchok added.
“He became Hon Ngeno’s constant companion and was the man behind the photos and creative short videos of Hon Ngeno.”
