In Kenya, the Mafia has a country: Roselyn Akombe reacts to scandals in Ruto’s govt

Roselyn Akombe has given her verdict amid scandals rocking President William Ruto’s administration.

In a cryptic statement on her official social media account on Friday, February 27, 2026, Akombe noted that the country is on the wrong trajectory.

She used the words of former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga to drive her point home, noting that while other countries have mafias, the situation is worse in the country.

“Some countries have the Mafia, in Kenya, the Mafia has a country- to paraphrase CJ Emeritus Willy Mutunga,” Akombe stated.

Akombe, who once served as a commissioner of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, has been a fierce critic of the Ruto administration.

She has, on several occasions, used her social media accounts to weigh in on the developments in the country.

Her statement comes in the wake of several scandals covered by the Kenyan media, painting the government in a bad light.

Reports of massive corruption in government have been making the rounds with little action taken against those in charge of the affected dockets.

Reports of scandals in government

A local daily also covered a report on how persons of interest linked to raging conflicts and shadowy figures have allegedly been given Kenyan passports, enabling them to travel across the globe, as conflicts rage on back in their countries.

Rogue agents have also been luring Kenyans out of the country, taking them to the frontline to fight in Russia’s war with Ukraine.

The conflict has claimed several casualties, with many Kenyans still trapped on the frontline.

How Kenyans were lured out of the country has dominated headlines in recent days, with little action taken against the whole establishment that facilitated their travel.

The country has also been hopping from one crisis to the next, with challenges reported across various key sectors.

From the chaos in the health sector, characterised by frequent strikes and complaints over the Social Health Authority, to challenges faced by many parents unable to take their children to school, President Ruto’s administration has been on the receiving end, with the opposition milking every crisis to its advantage.

Most recently, a serious drought left millions of Kenyans on the brink of despair, with the government scrambling to salvage the situation.
