How to verify Kenya Power staff identity during home visits

By , July 13, 2026

Kenya Power has asked electricity consumers across the country to always check the identity of anyone who comes to their homes claiming to be an employee or a contractor.

The power distributor noted that this move follows cases of fraudsters who pretend to be company workers so they can extort money or do illegal power connections.

To help Kenyans protect themselves, the utility firm is pushing for the use of its mobile tool to confirm who is at your door.

In a post on their official X handle, the company stated, “Our easy verification process with *977# gives you peace of mind and builds trust that you’re dealing with our staff or contractors .”

How to verify Kenya Power staff on your phone

When a worker arrives at your compound, you can verify their status in a few seconds. As per the utility company’s guidelines, Step 1 is to dial *977# on your phone.

Once the main menu appears on your screen, you need to choose the validation feature. From the options, select “Jua for Sure” as Step 2.

Next, choose the specific role of the person at your doorstep. Based on what the worker tells you, your next move is to select “Staff or Contractor” as Step 3.

To cross-check their details against the database, you must then input their 5 digit staff number as Step 4.

Finally, the system will prompt you to input their ID number as Step 5 to complete the process. After submitting these details, you will receive a response confirming if the individual is a Kenya Power staff member.

Staying safe from electricity conmen

This initiative aims to protect households from criminals who take advantage of unsuspecting customers. Many Kenyans have previously lost money to fake workers who demand bribes to install meters or threaten to cut off their power supply.

Kenya Power noted that the shortcode provides an instant way to get facts before letting strangers into your compound. The company added that “It’s quick, simple, and gives you certainty.”

By using this service regularly, consumers can stop fraud and avoid the dangers of bad electrical wiring done by unqualified people. Customers should also look out for official uniforms and staff badges before allowing any work to begin on their properties.
