Heartbroken Nick Kosgey’s family shares journalist’s joy after joining Ng’eno’s team
By Luke Oluoch, March 4, 2026Betty Bett, the sister-in-law of the journalist Nick Kosgei, who perished alongside Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ng’eno, has shared how excited the young man was after landing a lucrative role on the MP’s media team.
Speaking during the requiem mass at the Africa Gospel Church (AGC) in Karen, Nairobi, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Bett recounted how the young journalist was elated to join the legislator’s media team, unaware that it would be his last job before the gruesome and tragic helicopter crash.
According to Betty, the budding Maseno University graduate’s sentiment summed up the feelings of her dear mother and other family members.
“I remember clearly when Mheshimiwa (Ng’eno) recognised his talent and invited him to join the team. Nick was so incredibly happy to begin that chapter. He prided himself on his work being recognised by Mheshimiwa, never imagining it would be cut so short. It has been barely a year since he joined Mheshimiwa’s team,” she disclosed.

Betty further disclosed the gravity of the tragedy, revealing that it has robbed the family of its breadwinner.
“Nick was a young, ambitious, and industrious man, and we are so saddened by his loss. The light of the family has gone dim, as he was the breadwinner of the family,” she added.
Kosgey among the casualties
Following the fatal crash, Bomet governor Hillary Barchok, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, revealed that Kosgey, who was part of Ng’eno’s media team, was among the casualties.
While expressing deep sorrow over Kosgey’s passing, Barchok revealed that Nick was part of his Communications Department in 2023, after completing his university education.
“At the County Government, Nick distinguished himself as a go-getter. He dabbled in writing, bilingual reporting, editing, broadcasting, and photography. He would do it all. He was never one to put his talent to waste.” Barchok said of his former employee.

He also praised the journalist’s easy-going personality and camaraderie, which made him a constant companion of the MP, whom he helped detail his public life through creative short videos.
Kosgey will be buried at his rural home in Kipkebe Village, Silibwet Township Ward, in Bomet Central Sub-County on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
