Ogamba said the assessment is a major milestone in Kenya’s education reforms, noting that it will play a central role in guiding learners’ transition to senior school.

“KJSEA is a key assessment tool at the end of junior school to evaluate learners’ competencies and guide their transition to senior school. The assessment is a significant milestone in the implementation of competency-based education, as it sets the stage for the inaugural transition to Grade 10 next year,” Ogamba said.

A total of 1,130,459 learners sat for the assessment across the country. Of these, 578,630 were male while 551,829 were female, representing 51.19% and 48.81% of the candidates, respectively.

Ogamba said the placement exercise will strictly follow learners’ performance and their selected pathways.

“It is expected that Grade 10 learners will report to their respective schools starting from 12th January 2025,” he confirmed.

He was accompanied by senior education officials, including the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Amb. Prof. Julius Bitok, acting TSC CEO Ms. Evaleen Chemitei, KNEC Board Chair Prof. Julius Nyabundi, and KNEC CEO Dr. David Njengere.
