Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has left a section of Kenyan parents emotional and grateful after personally sending money to cover their children’s school fees during a live radio segment.

Speaking on a show hosted by popular Kameme FM presenter Muthoni Baby Top on Friday, March 13, 2026, the MP said he found it important to support parents struggling with school fees and requested the host to help reach a few families who could benefit from the assistance.

During the segment, several parents called in to explain their financial situations.

One caller from Nyeri explained that her children were in Ruthagati Boys and she had a fees balance of Ksh40,000 while relying on manual labour to make ends meet.

“Yes, Kameme FM. I am Wa Maina from Nyeri. My children are in Ruthagati Boys. I have a fees balance of Ksh40,000 and the work I do is manual jobs. I live in Nyeri,” the caller said.

Another parent, also from Nyeri, had children in Grade 5 and Grade 8, and a combined fees balance of Ksh10,400. She mentioned a close friend who was hospitalised and struggling to pay for her three children’s schooling.

“I am Wa Kevo. I have Grade 5 and Grade 8 students, and my fee balance is Ksh 10,400. I also have a close friend who was in the hospital and has three children with no school fees. Let me give my number first. I am from Nyeri,” another caller said.

A third caller, Caroline Wanjiru, revealed she was unwell with back pain and had three children in different schools, including a university student at Tom Mboya, one at Karima Girls, and another at Moi Equator Girls, with a total fees balance of Ksh50,000.

“I am Caroline Wanjiru, and I am unwell with back pain. My children are in different schools: one is at Tom Mboya University, another at Karima Girls, and the third at Moi Equator Girls. The balance of school fees is Ksh50,000,” another caller said.

The MP, coordinating with Muthoni Baby Top, sent the required funds to each parent immediately, emphasising that the money should only be used for school fees to ensure the children’s education continued uninterrupted.

“And please note that this money should only be used for school fees. Don’t use it for business or other purposes. This is for school fees so your child can learn and help you. Thank you, the money has been sent,” Muthoni Baby Top said.

Each transaction was confirmed during the live broadcast, eliciting emotional responses from the parents and listeners alike.
