Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Price range, features, and how it rivals iPhone Ultra

Samsung is pushing its foldable phone strategy further with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, a device that tries to solve some of the problems that have kept foldable phones from becoming an everyday choice for many buyers.
Samsung has made changes to its size, weight, display and performance. When closed, it works like a conventional smartphone, but opening it gives users a much larger screen that can be used for work, entertainment and multitasking.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 sits firmly in the premium smartphone category. Current Kenyan listings put the standard model at roughly Ksh210,000 to Ksh230,000, depending on the storage capacity and retailer.
A 512GB version has been listed at around Ksh228,000, although prices can differ between sellers and may change depending on availability, warranty, and promotions. Samsung’s international starting price of $1,899 converts to about Ksh245,000 using the August 12, 2026, exchange rate, before local taxes, shipping and retailer costs are considered.
The extra money pays for a device that effectively combines a phone and a small tablet. For someone who regularly works from a phone, watches films, reads documents or uses several applications at once, that larger display could make the higher cost easier to justify.
Features that make the Fold 8 different
The main attraction is the redesigned display. According to Samsung, the Fold 8 has a 5.5-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch main screen when opened. The wider shape is intended to make the phone more comfortable to use when it is closed, while the larger inner display gives users more room for content and applications.
The extra space allows users to open multiple applications and move between them more easily. Someone could, for example, read an email while referring to a document or watch a video while keeping another application open.
Samsung has also reduced the weight. At 201 grams, the Fold 8 is the lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet. The slimmer and lighter design makes a difference for people who carry their phones throughout the day, especially compared with earlier generations of large foldable devices.
Performance has also received attention. The phone uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and comes with 12GB or 16GB of RAM, depending on the storage version. Buyers can choose between 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of storage.
For photography, there is a 50MP main camera supported by a 50MP ultra-wide camera. Samsung has also included Galaxy AI features, while the large internal display makes the phone useful for editing content and handling tasks that can feel cramped on a conventional handset.
The phone also has a 4,800mAh battery, 5G connectivity and support for Wi-Fi 7. These specifications make the Fold 8 less of a novelty and more of a device aimed at people who want a phone capable of handling demanding daily use.
How it rivals the expected iPhone Ultra
Samsung’s timing is significant because Apple is expected to enter the foldable market with an iPhone Ultra. The Apple device has not yet been officially released, so its final specifications and Kenyan price should be treated as estimates rather than confirmed information.
Current reports put the expected starting price at between Ksh258,000 and Ksh323,000, based on estimates of Ksh2,000 to Ksh2,500 in US pricing. Some reports have placed the expected price closer to Ksh297,000, showing how much uncertainty remains around the final figure.
The expected iPhone Ultra is believed to use a book-style folding design, putting it directly against Samsung’s Fold range. That could make the competition less about specifications alone and more about the software experience, cameras, battery performance and how well each company makes a large folding screen useful.
