Safaricom lists fake Fuliza limit messages among top scams targeting M-Pesa users

Safaricom has issued a fresh warning to its customers over the growing threat of mobile money fraud, highlighting several common scam messages and tactics that fraudsters use to trick unsuspecting users into surrendering their personal information or losing money.
In a public awareness message shared on Thursday, July 9, 2026, the telecommunications giant urged customers to remain vigilant whenever they receive suspicious messages, calls or links claiming to originate from the company.
The campaign, which carries the slogan “Jiulize Ni Ukweli Ama Con” (Ask yourself: Is it true or is it a scam?), encourages Kenyans to question suspicious requests before taking any action.
Safaricom advised customers never to fall victim to fraudsters and urged them to forward suspicious messages to 333 or use the My One App to report fraud.
“Usikubali kuconiwa, forward the message to 333 to report fraud #JiulizeNiUkweliAmaCon Tuma kwa hii number,” it wrote.
Among the warning signs highlighted by the company is anyone asking customers to forward money to a particular number without verification.
The telco also cautioned customers against trusting calls claiming to originate from Safaricom if they are not made using the company’s official customer care number, 0722 000 000.
Another common scam flagged by the company involves fraudsters claiming that a customer’s SIM card has been registered twice before asking them to share their M-Pesa PIN to verify their details.
“Tunakupigia kutoka Safaricom na number si 0722 000 000. Your number has been double registered; please share your M-PESA PIN to confirm your details,” Safaricom warned.

The company further warned against messages threatening that a customer’s line will be suspended unless they click on a link to verify their details.
According to Safaricom, such links are commonly used by fraudsters to steal personal information or gain unauthorised access to customer accounts.
Customers were also cautioned against fake promotional messages claiming they have won cash prizes in Safaricom promotions.
One of the examples shared by the company promised recipients Ksh50,000 in a fictitious Safaricom “Jiachilie” promotion before directing them to click on a fraudulent link to claim the prize.
Safaricom advised users to ignore such messages, noting that genuine promotions are communicated through official company channels and do not require customers to click suspicious links.
“To avoid immediate suspension of your line, click the link to verify your details. CONGRATULATIONS! You have been selected as a lucky winner of Ksh. 50,000 in the Safaricom Jiachilie promotion, click the link to claim your prize,” it added.
The company also warned against fake messages promising to increase customers’ Fuliza limits through unofficial links.
Safaricom clarified that customers should only access Fuliza services through authorised M-Pesa platforms and should avoid clicking links circulated through unsolicited messages.
“Click the link below to increase your Fuliza limit” red card. Jiulize ni ukweli ama con? Kaa rada, usiwe the next fraud victim”red card. Usikubali kuconiwa! Forward the message 333 or go to My OneApp to REPORT FRAUD,” it added.
