Moving story of Kaluma Boy’s father who stayed in ICU for 3 months

The story of TikToker Kaluma Boy and his bedridden father reads like a page torn from life’s most testing chapters.

Kaluma gained fame through emotional TikTok videos showing him taking care of his father while also working in tea farms in Chinga, Othaya Ward, to raise money for his medication. His humility and effort quickly won the admiration of many online, but behind those videos lies a deeper story of struggle and survival that few knew in detail.

The family’s journey has been one filled with challenges, faith, and hope. During the Thanksgiving ceremony held at Bishop Ben Kiengei’s Jesus Compassion Ministry (JCM) Church in Ruiru, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, the family finally shared what they had been through since Kibe fell ill.

According to Irene, the firstborn daughter in the family, caring for their father has been a long and painful journey.

She recalled how in August 2024, their mother received a phone call from a neighbour informing her that Kibe had been rushed to the hospital after suffering a sudden seizure.

From there, his condition became serious, and he was admitted to Kiriaini Hospital before being transferred to several other hospitals as his condition deteriorated.

Eventually, he was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he stayed in the Intensive Care Unit for three months.

“It has been a journey full of thorns caring for our father, but we have also seen roses through the kindness of people. Many may be wondering how our father got here. Last year in August, my mother received a call from a neighbour informing her that our dad had been rushed to the hospital. He was first taken to Kiriaini Hospital, then moved through several hospitals, and was later transferred to Murang’a Hospital. After that, he was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he stayed in the Intensive Care Unit for three months,” Irene shared.

Even after being discharged from the ICU, his recovery was slow and difficult.

Irene shared that he remained admitted in the hospital wards for another two months before being allowed to go home.

“Even after that, he had to remain in the hospital wards for two more months. We thank God because he has made it this far.”

The Thanksgiving service in Ruiru brought together TikTokers, friends, and church members who came to stand with the family.

The atmosphere was charged with emotion as Bishop Ben led long sessions of prayer, joined by a host of other pastors who collectively pleaded with God to reward the compassion shown by the youth and to restore healing to the ailing father.

Kibe, who is now bedridden and cannot walk on his own, attended the service briefly while lying on a bed inside the church. His condition remains delicate, as he continues to recover from the effects of a stroke that left him dependent on medical assistance, including the use of tubes for basic functions.

Despite the pain, he gathered the strength to address the congregation, thanking Kenyans both at home and abroad for their generosity and prayers.

He expressed his gratitude to his son, Kaluma, for standing by him, and to his wife for taking care of him through the most difficult times.

“My fellow Kenyans here and abroad, greetings to you all. I thank everyone who has given us their support, and in the name of God I declare that I am healed through the love and help you have shown us. I also thank my son, Kaluma, for what he has done, because through him I have received great help. I thank my wife too, for taking good care of me through this journey. Thank you all, and may God bless you,” the father said.

On his part, Bishop Kiengei praised Mama Kaluma for showing rare strength and faithfulness, saying that she had truly honoured her marriage vows by standing with her husband through illness and uncertainty.

He commended her for remaining firm and choosing love over abandonment even when things became unbearable.

“Mama Kaluma has truly honoured the vows of love. She endured and stayed beside her husband through all those difficult moments. I want to thank her for her faithfulness and for standing by him when things were at their worst,” he said.
