Shalkido, a former Sailors Gang member whose real name was Kevin Mburu Kinyanju, went broke and reached out for help a month ago. The artist, who was struggling as a father and exhausted by multiple failed hustles, expressed that he had hit rock bottom, pleading for help across various social media platforms.

Despite his financial struggles, three top Kenyan comedians came through for him with various help, from hospitalisation to financial help.

Eric Omondi

Comedian-turned-philanthropist Eric Omondi came to the rescue of the late Gengetone artist Shalkido. At the time, the comedian shared a video of himself unwrapping the motorbike and officially handing it over to the struggling singer.

Eric used the donations from a fraudulent case, where a Kitengela woman had faked domestic violence to fool Eric’s fans, who donated over Ksh1 million for her before she was later exposed.

Aliomba piki piki na team Sisi Kwa Sisi walichanga pesa kule Kitengela tukasema hii pesa ya Kitengela, tusaidie nayo Wakenya. Team Sisi Kwa sisi wamekubuyia piki piki,” Eric said in the video.

Shalkido expressed excitement about the support and thanked the comedian and fans for coming through.

“Thank you so much, guys. Thank you, Eric, for coming through. I will release a song for you,” he said. “Compose a song for team Sisi Kwa Sisi,” Eric challenged him.

The motorbike was unveiled at the Thika Road Mall, and they both tried it within the mall, as seen in the video.

At the time, Eric handed Shalkido insurance cover documents and the logbook. He also bought foodstuffs for the artist in the supermarket.

“Thank you team Sisi Kwa Sisi. When a Man is down, When a man opens up and says amejaribu kutoka kwa shimo anashindwa. There is no shame in asking for help. We bought our Brother Shalkido a motorbike, at least alishe familia na afundishe mtoi. God Bless you.”

Terence Creative

Despite past online fight with Shalkido Comedian Terence Creative responded to the Gengetone artiste after the musician blasted him online, accusing him of offering advice instead of tangible help.

In his message, Terence chose a conciliatory tone, addressing Shalkido as his younger brother and emphasising the importance of character and mindset in overcoming challenges.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Terence wrote: “Don’t let past mistakes define you; instead, use them to improve your today and build a better future. A shift in mindset can make all the difference. Ni hayo kwa sasa ndugu, sina ubaya, and I wish you all the best in this phase, God akubless saana.”

In his response, Terence urged Shalkido to focus less on past mistakes and instead view them as stepping stones toward a brighter tomorrow. He stressed that one’s outlook plays a critical role in shaping the future and reminded him that habits and choices today will define the kind of life he lives tomorrow.

Alongside his advice, Terence pledged to contribute Sh20,000 to Shalkido as a sign of goodwill, underlining that he harboured no ill intentions.

Oga Obina

Popular media personality Oga Obinna was the main communication link of the family and the artist’s fans, where he has been issuing a detailed update on Shalkidofollowing the serious injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday, 5 October.

Shortly after the accident, Obinna and Shalkido’s father went public with the news, confirming that Shalkido was admitted to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.

Obinna then went on explaining how initially, it was difficult to get a clear medical assessment from hospital staff. Eventually, the treating physician provided clarity: Shalkido has a broken left leg and internal bleeding in multiple parts of the brain, leading to dangerous swelling.

“He has internal bleeding in the brain … it is in a lot of places, and so it is also swollen, meaning that it is inoperable, and they cannot do anything about it. About the leg, there is a way they handled it, but they will still treat him for it. The main concern is the brain … the neurosurgeon saw him, and there is nothing they can do for now. They said it is very severe.”

Attempts to move him to a different facility faltered due to lack of personnel to process the needed documents.

Worth noting, the former Gengetone artiste died following a grisly motorbike accident that left him in critical condition.

The artiste, who had earlier been reported to be in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, passed away on the evening of Monday, October 6, 2025.
