Christmas can be boring at times if you don’t have a plan and things have even been made worse by the tough economic times.

The idea that you need to spend a lot of money to enjoy Christmas is misguided as there are several things you can do for fun without breaking the bank.

Some of the fun things you can do on Christmas include:

Watch movies

Christmas movies can be a great way to liven up the day with family members.

Catch up with classics like The Preacher’s Wife, Tyler Perry’s Madea movies if you love drama, Home Alone, The Mask, Die Hard among others.

Get everyone cuddled up on the couch together and watch all genres of movies that will make you guys pass the time as you enjoy quality time together.

Cook food

Christmas can be the perfect time to improve your culinary skills if you are not good at cooking and if you are a professional cook then it’s time to treat your family and friends to the type of foods that are served at five-star hotels.

Men probably throughout the year steer clear of the kitchen but on Christmas Day, since a lot of foods are being cooked, it’s the best time to lend a hand and learn a thing or two about roasting that chicken or chopping onions without shedding tears.

Whatever food you are cooking, doing it together as a family brings joy and can be a fun way of spending the day.

Family game nights

It wouldn’t be Christmas without playing a game or several with your family.

You can play cards together, do all sorts of trivia, memory games, two truths, one lie, guessing game (blindfold each player and one-by-one let them taste a food or drink and say what exactly it is), truth or dare questions among many other games.

Christmas story together

There’s no better way to get in the Christmas spirit than with stories. Since families use this moment for get-togethers, it’s a perfect time to catch up on the major events and gossip.

Everyone can take turns choosing a story to tell whilst you all chomp on some delicious festive snacks.

Reflection and meditation

Since Christmas falls towards the end of the year, it can be a great time to do some reflections on past events and meditate on the future.

After you have cooked all the foods and eaten to your fill, sit down as a family and reflect on the major moments good or bad and discuss the plans for the future as you inspire each other.

Christmas gifts

Gifts don’t have to be expensive but they go a long way in making people feel appreciated.

Write your family members Christmas cards, jot down something nice about them and see the joy that it brings them.

Go out for family fun

As a family, you can go out on Christmas to have fun together. Take your children to Uhuru Park, or to malls for fun.

For those outside the capital, find a fun spot even in the village and spend quality time together as a family.

Christmas choir or orchestra

There are plenty of music-related Christmas events to attend during the holiday season.

Whether you want to see a big performance or attend a local choir or holiday concert, there are countless musical performances that will deliver all the Christmas cheer you desire.

Donate

Christmas is about sharing the joy. If your family can afford to throw a party on Christmas and cook all the food you can possibly eat, don’t throw what remains away because there are families who can’t afford to put food on the table.

As a family, you can invite some people over to your home to enjoy the festivities together or visit underprivileged families or even children’s homes and give them foodstuff and see the joy you will bring to them.

Night prayer

Christmas is a Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Christ. After all the eating and merrymaking, there is no better way to glorify Jesus as a family than praying together.

Jesus reminds Christians about the power of praying together in the book of Matthew 18:19-20: “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
