Woman claiming to be Bahati’s mum to undergo counselling before being handed DNA results

A woman claiming to be Bahati’s biological mother will undergo counselling before receiving the results of their DNA test, according to Dr Thuo, the specialist overseeing the process at a popular Nairobi hospital.

Speaking when Bahati and the woman visited his facility on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Thuo emphasised the importance of counselling before the results are handed over, noting that the process begins with a session to prepare both Bahati and the woman for the potential emotional impact.

He added that the counselling is intended to guide them through understanding and coping with the outcomes, regardless of whether the claim is confirmed or not.

“Before Bahati and the mother receive the results, we conduct counselling. In fact, the process begins with counselling, after which we hand over the results and then address the impact of those results,” he said.

Dr Thuo explained that the DNA test will be conducted in the hospital’s laboratory, where blood samples from both Bahati and the woman will be collected.

He said the results are expected to be ready within two weeks, clarifying that they cannot be provided on the same day the samples are taken.

“For this DNA test, the procedure will be conducted in the laboratory where we will take blood samples. The results will be ready in two weeks, which means you cannot receive them today,” he shared.

The doctor also outlined the purpose and methodology of the test.

He noted that a paternity test will confirm whether a child inherits 50 per cent of their DNA from the father and 50 per cent from the mother.

“Within those two weeks, we will carry out a paternity test that confirms whether a child shares 50 per cent DNA from the father and 50 per cent from the mother,” he said.

He further explained that the results will be sealed but can be opened on-site if the participants wish.

“The results will come sealed, and if you wish to open them here, you may do so,” he said.

He added that the DNA test being conducted is a standard paternity test, which costs Ksh20,000 at the hospital.

“The DNA test we are conducting here is called a paternity test, and it costs Ksh20,000,” he said.
