Bahati shares expectations as he takes DNA test with woman claiming to be his mum

Musician Kelvin Bahati has opened up about his mindset as he prepares to take a DNA test with the woman claiming to be his biological mother.

Speaking in an interview with YouTubers outside a popular Nairobi hospital on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the ‘Mama’ hitmaker, who grew up in a children’s home, explained that he is approaching the DNA test without any specific expectations, fully aware that the results could go either way.

“At the moment I have no expectations about the DNA test. I am expecting the results to be anything,’ he said.

He emphasised that he decided to meet the woman because her story appeared genuine and she holds a strong belief that he is her son.

He added that he wanted to handle the situation carefully and scientifically, rather than dismissing her claim outright, which is why they proceeded to the hospital to take the test.

“If I had certain expectations, I would not have come here, but because I listened to her and her story is genuine, and she has a strong belief that I am her son, I did not want to refute that or write it off before doing my due diligence with something scientific. That’s why we came to the hospital to take the test,” the singer said.

Diana’s take

Bahati also noted that his wife, Diana, has not commented on the matter due to its sensitivity.

He revealed that she is also processing the possibility that the woman could be his biological mother, and that commenting on the matter could easily spiral things out of control.

“Diana has not commented on this issue because she is also wondering whether the woman is my mum, and it’s a sensitive matter. It’s not something she could easily comment on,” he said.

While the DNA test results are expected to be released within 14 days, Bahati revealed that he hopes the process will provide closure for the woman.

“The DNA results will be out in 14 days, and all I would say is I have nothing slated yet. But I want her to get closure,” he shared.

New twist

Contrary to public perception, this is not a recent claim.

Bahati revealed that he has been aware of the woman’s claim for the past five years.

He shared that the woman’s daughter had sent him a direct message on Facebook at that time, which he ignored.

“This woman’s daughter actually sent me a direct message five years ago. You know, people think it’s a recent matter because it recently came online. No, I knew of the claim that she was my mum five years ago,” he said.

He revealed that it was only after a YouTuber later highlighted the claim online that Bahati decided to take it seriously and engage with the woman directly.

“When the daughter sent me the message on Facebook, I ignored it, but when I saw a YouTuber later post about it, I took it as a serious matter,” he added.
