Former TV host Willis Raburu has issued a powerful call for action following the devastating floods in Nairobi that have claimed lives.

In a statement shared on his official social media accounts on Sunday, March 8, 2026, Raburu emphasised that the rising death toll is a stark reminder of the human cost of inaction.

In addition, he reflected on the unimaginable pain families face when they lose loved ones in floods.

He added that no family should have to live with such grief, painting a vivid picture of the heartbreak when someone seen in the morning does not make it home.

“It must be unimaginably painful to lose a loved one, and to lose them in a flood, oh my, your mind cannot help but imagine their final moments, the fear, the struggle, the fight for life,” Raburu wrote.

“No family should have to live with that kind of grief. Imagine you saw someone in the morning, and then they don’t make it back home. Sigh.”

Raburu on floods

Raburu stressed that floods in Kenya, especially in Nairobi County, are no longer breaking news. He says they have become an annual occurrence, much like droughts in other parts of the country.

“Floods are not breaking news in Kenya anymore. In Nairobi, we expect them every year. Just as drought has become routine in other parts of our country,” he stated.

“These are not surprises; they are patterns. Truth is, patterns demand action.”

Call for action

Additionally, Raburu urged society and leaders alike to recognise that the decisions made today have lasting consequences.

He highlighted urban planning, drainage systems, environmental protection, and disaster preparedness as critical areas that cannot be ignored.

“The decisions we make as a society, and the decisions our leaders make, have lasting consequences,” he added.

“Urban planning, drainage systems, environmental protection, and disaster preparedness are not optional conversations.”

He further warned that the cost of ignoring these challenges is now being measured in human lives.

“As the death toll rises, so must our voices,” he warned.

In addition, Raburu further called on citizens to demand change and take proactive steps to prevent further loss.

“We must continue to demand change, because the cost of inaction is now being measured in human lives,” Raburu wrote.
