Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has expressed excitement after meeting amateur boxer Mbavu Destroyer just days after his loss to Majembe in the highly talked-about boxing clash dubbed Vurugu.

In a video shared on his TikTok page on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the outspoken MP is seen warmly greeting the boxer and bursting into laughter after Mbavu shared what his signature catchphrases like ‘weka mawe’ mean.

He is also seen repeatedly shaking his hand in excitement as the two interacted in a lively exchange.

At one point, Mbavu demonstrated a unique handshake he claims to have recently invented, which Salasya enthusiastically adopted, laughing and engaging with visible excitement.

The MP is later heard saying he cannot wait for a future encounter in the ring to determine who is the “GOAT” between them.

Towards the end of the interaction, Salasya is seen praising the boxer’s personality and confidence, noting that he was impressed by how Mbavu carries himself despite his recent defeat.

He goes on to describe him in highly animated terms, suggesting strength and toughness while reacting playfully to his statements.

He further acknowledged having watched the Vurugu boxing match and, despite Mbavu’s loss, still referred to him as a champion in his own right.

Lakini wewe ni hatari. Wewe ni mnyama. Ni mbaya sana. Naombasasa tuwekelee mawe. Ati umesema saa hii ni ngumu,” he says while laughing loudly.

While sharing the video, the MP also invited his followers to give their opinions on how a potential boxing match between him and Mbavu would play out. He suggested that such a bout would be highly dramatic and likened it to wrestling in style and intensity.

Mimi na destroyer nani atasgunda mwingine boxing yetu itakuwa kama wrestling,” he wrote.

Vurugu Fight Night

The controversial bout took place at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, a highly anticipated boxing event organised by Oga Obinna in Nairobi.

The fight was part of a series of high-profile matchups intended to showcase local talent and attract attention to the growing amateur boxing scene in Kenya.

Mbavu Destroyer, whose real name is Ferdinand Omondi, was matched against a rising contender in what was expected to be a competitive and evenly matched fight. The event drew a large crowd, including fans, media, and other local boxers, all eager to witness the showdown.

From the outset, the match was intense, with both fighters showing aggression and attempting to dominate the ring. Early in the second round, controversy struck when Mbavu reportedly received a blow to his genitals.

He immediately signalled distress, prompting officials to pause the fight. Observers noted that the incident visibly affected his performance, limiting his ability to defend himself effectively.

Despite attempts to continue, Mbavu was unable to carry on with the fight, leading the referee to declare his opponent the winner.
