Viral pieces from Niko Kadi challenge and how Kenyans are using creativity to power it

Social media has turned into a powerful mobilisation tool with the youth in the country exploiting its potential to drive the Niko Kadi initiative.

On the various platforms, Kenyans have turned to creativity to keep the initiative alive several days after journalist Allans Ademba teamed up with other youth to bring it to life, with the results showing in long queues witnessed at Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices across the country.

Blending humour with civic education, each piece shared on social media tells a powerful story on the need to register as voters and the task ahead in 2027 as Kenyans take to the ballot to elect leaders.

Noticeably, ordinary Kenyans have taken ownership of Niko Kadi with viral pieces eclipsing social media influencers and content creators who have in the past dominated similar initiatives.

Clips circulating underscore the importance of voter registration, with some depicting situations where those who have not registered as voters are being denied services.

Music finds its place in #NikoKadi

Music too has found its place in the initiative, with one shared by journalist Allans Ademba resonating with many netizens.

In the clip, the singer uses the beats and rhythm of a popular RnB song to weigh in on the plight of what she would do in certain situations.

Without mentioning any politician or office, the lady in the video pours her heart out in music with smooth vocals.

The short clip went viral with netizens appreciating the creativity and the talent.

“If I were Wantam, I would run to Sugoi. I would give back the funds I stole, and then I would get a beating for it. I’ll jail myself first, then I go to my friends with whom we stole money together and jail all of us together, coz I know we are thugs,” the singer states.

Dating someone unregistered? Instant red flag

Relationships, too, are not spared from the strong wave, with posters conveying the message of registering as voters circulating.

Humour and creativity came alive in many of them, with the overriding message that everyone should ensure that the person they are in a relationship with is registered.

“#TukoKadi. Dating someone unregistered? Instant red flag,” a poster shared by Abbie Zuena reads in part, underscoring the importance of getting their names in the voter register.
