‘Ukiachwa, accept and move on’ – Millie Odhiambo addresses gender-based violence
Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has addressed gender-based violence in the country, calling out those who resort to violence to address conflicts.
In a statement on her Facebook account on Monday, March 23, 2026, Millie cited a recent case that has left a woman in hospital with injuries; the MP emphasised that violence is never a solution.
The lawmaker noted that GBV affects both men and women, adding that women are disproportionately affected.

“Say no to gender-based violence. Gender-based violence affects both men and women, but women are disproportionately affected. The fact that there is an alleged morality issue does not excuse violence.
Millie Odhiambo’s take
She added that any man or woman dumped by their partner should simply accept and move on instead of resorting to violence that brings many other people into the picture.
“Ukiachwa, accept and move on. Should it be true that a married man was involved, he may lose his freedom and his job and cause stigma to his children and wife [that he has already brought into the public limelight unfairly]. Violence is never a solution,” Millie said.
Her remarks come hours after a young woman was doused in a chemical substance suspected to be acid in Nairobi’s Ngong area.
In the incident that went viral on social media, Mary Clare was left fighting for her life at Kenyatta National Hospital after the attack, which, according to eyewitnesses, was orchestrated by two assailants.

Witnesses recounted that one assailant cornered her as she was heading home and splashed a liquid on her before attempting to flee to where his accomplice was waiting, ready to speed away on a motorbike.
The liquid caused severe injury to her skin, with witnesses recounting that it caused her clothes to melt away.
1 person cornered
Things, however, did not go according to the assailants’ plans as Clare’s cries for help attracted members of the public who cornered him before he could escape.
The crowd gave him a thorough beating before police intervened to save his life, whisking him away to Kibra Police Station.
Investigations have been launched into the incident, with police detaining one person of interest.
