Truphena Muthoni reveals plan to write a book on her painful upbringing

Environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has hinted at a difficult past but says she will reveal the full details in her upcoming book.
Speaking to Oga Obinna during a YouTube interview on Monday, January 20, 2026, Truphena avoided discussing personal pain, saying, “Mhm, I prefer not to talk about it right now. I am actually writing a book. I will write my story in a book, and I will let the world know about me in a book.”
Truphena, who is 22 years old, said her book will share experiences that shaped her life. She also spoke about how her interest in nature and environmental activism began.

“The idea for the tree hugging came about when I was 18 years old. I was at an event in Nakuru, and yeah, we were just walking, and I was left behind, yeah, I decided to hug a tree,” she explained.
Truphena said she hugged the tree for a few minutes and felt calm and refreshed.
“It is actually so therapeutic. I have been interacting with nature, but this time I decided to hug a tree. Just being in the forest, walking barefoot, planting trees. I walk a lot in the forest,” she added.
Her environmental journey and Guinness World Record
Truphena’s environmental work has grown into more than personal healing. She recently completed a major challenge for the Guinness World Records.
In a post on her Instagram on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, she showed the final steps of her submission, ticking the required boxes and uploading the necessary documentation for Guinness review.

She captioned the post, “Officially submitted evidence for Guinness World Records Attempt, 72 hrs of Environmental Endurance Guinness World Records,” confirming that the verification process is now underway.
The 22-year-old completed the marathon on Thursday, December 11, 2025, in Nyeri County, hugging a single tree continuously for three days. Truphena said the experience tested her endurance but also strengthened her connection with nature.
She explained that such efforts are part of her mission to encourage environmental awareness. Her upcoming book is expected to give readers insight into both her personal struggles and the motivations behind her environmental activism.
