Truphena Muthoni submits evidence after 72-hour tree-hugging record attempt
Environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has officially submitted her evidence to Guinness World Records following her 72-hour tree-hugging challenge.
In a post shared on her Instagram on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Truphena gave fans a glimpse of the final steps, showing her ticking the required boxes and uploading the necessary documentation for Guinness to review.
She captioned the post “Officially submitted evidence for Guinness World Records Attempt, 72 hrs of Environmental Endurance Guinness World Records”, signalling that the record verification process is now underway.
The 22-year-old completed the marathon on Thursday, December 11, 2025, in Nyeri County, hugging a single tree continuously for three days.

The feat drew nationwide attention, with residents, environmentalists, and local leaders stopping by to encourage her.
Truphena’s challenge aimed to raise awareness on deforestation, climate change, and mental health struggles among young people.
Breaking own record
This attempt sought to surpass her previous record of 48 hours, set earlier in Nairobi’s Michuki Memorial Park, which earned her national recognition and the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC) from President William Ruto.

As part of her challenge, Truphena also completed a three-hour blindfolded segment to highlight the experiences of visually impaired people and connect conservation with social justice.
Inspiring a trend
Following her challenge, many young Kenyans have taken up similar tree-hugging campaigns, hoping to raise awareness for causes close to their hearts.
Pastor Jimmy Irungu attempted an 80-hour hug to highlight cancer awareness, while 16-year-old Stephen Gachanja embarked on a 50-hour challenge with parental support.
Others across the country have also joined the trend, posting videos online to encourage donations, spark environmental discussions, or simply test their endurance. T
