TikToker Kawira addresses mourners at second burial days after proposing to run for MCA
By Steve Ireri, March 14, 2026TikTok star Anne Kawira has shared her manifesto with mourners during a second burial just days after announcing her intention to run for the Athiru Gaiti Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in 2027.
Speaking during the burial held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, Kawira offered her condolences to the family while also using the occasion to introduce herself to the community and outline her political ambitions.
“I have come here to offer my heartfelt condolences. My name is Anne Kawira, and I am from a nearby area,” she said.
Kawira then shared her connection to the area, noting that she grew up nearby and attended a local primary school.
“I apologise for arriving late, as I was attending another meeting, but I had vowed to come and pay my respects. I grew up around here and attended a nearby Primary School, and I can see some familiar faces in the crowd,” she said.
Life abroad
While presenting herself as a well-exposed lady, Kawira reflected on her time working in the Gulf after completing Form Four.
She explained that her exposure to different cultures and languages, including German and Arabic, had slightly influenced her Meru dialect.

Upon returning home, Kawira expressed concern over local developments, including the state of roads and the welfare of children, suggesting that progress had lagged in the community.
“After completing Form Four, I went abroad to work in the Gulf. Because of that experience and interacting with many languages, including German and Arabic, my Meru language may have slightly changed, and I ask for your understanding. Upon returning, I was concerned to see that local developments are still lagging, our children continue to face challenges, and our roads need repair,” she said.
Kawira then assured the community that if elected, she would work diligently to address their grievances.
She asked the residents not to dismiss her candidacy based on her age, stressing that younger leaders can be sharp, capable, and effective in public service.
“I have come today not only to offer my condolences but also to share that I am vying for the Athiru Gaiti MCA seat in 2027. If you give me the opportunity, I promise to work diligently for this community. Please do not dismiss me because of my age; being younger also comes with sharpness, energy, and fresh ideas,” she said.
She also outlined plans to establish offices across the ward, including remote areas, to ensure residents have accessible channels to share concerns and receive assistance.
“I have plans to open offices in many areas, even in remote places, so that residents can easily bring their grievances and receive help. I am committed to serving this community and ensuring that your voices are heard and your needs addressed,” she added.
Following Salasya’s steps
Speaking in an interview aired live on her page on Sunday, March 1, 2026, Kawira likened herself to Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, noting that the lawmaker maintains a public social media presence while effectively serving his constituents.
“For a leader, it’s not that they can’t stay on TikTok. And even if you choose a pastor because he looks holy, it doesn’t automatically mean he will deliver as a leader. Look at the example of Mumias East MP Peter Salasya,” she shared.

She said that just as Salasya remains active on TikTok without compromising his role as an elected official, she believes she can balance her creative career with public service.
“He is a free man; he is on TikTok, can do anything dramatic, and still remains a leader,” Kawira said.
