‘Swapped’ review: A bright animated film driven by Michael B. Jordan’s voice

Netflix has released its anticipated animated film Swapped, a colourful fantasy adventure that leans on emotion, humour, and a familiar body-swap storyline to deliver a family-friendly watch.
Directed by Nathan Greno and produced by Skydance Animation, the Friday, May 1, 2026, release brings together strong voice talent and vibrant visuals in a light, accessible package.
The story follows Ollie, voiced by Michael B. Jordan, a curious young Pookoo living in a peaceful valley shared with the elegant Javan birds.
A childhood misunderstanding between Ollie and Ivy (Juno Temple) sets off a chain of events that later leads to a magical body swap, forcing the two to live each other’s lives in completely different worlds.
Body-swap journey
At its core, Swapped uses the body-swap concept to explore empathy and perspective. Ollie is thrown into the skies as a towering bird, while Ivy finds herself navigating life on land as a small creature.
The experience forces both characters to confront their past, rebuild trust, and work together to restore balance to their world.

Their journey eventually ties into a larger conflict involving the return of the Firewolf, adding urgency to their transformation.
Voice performances
Oscar-winning Michael B. Jordan anchors the film with a warm and grounded performance that gives Ollie emotional depth and relatability.
Juno Temple matches him with a performance that balances sharpness and vulnerability, giving Ivy a strong presence throughout the story.

Supporting roles from Tracy Morgan and Cedric the Entertainer inject humour into the film, helping maintain a playful tone that appeals to younger audiences.
Animation and tone
Visually, Swapped stands out with rich colours, imaginative landscapes, and detailed character designs. The world feels lively and immersive, even if the storyline follows a predictable structure.
While the early sections take time to build momentum, the film finds its rhythm in the adventure phase, blending comedy, action, and emotional growth.

Swapped delivers a solid and enjoyable family film. Its strengths lie in its visuals, light humour, and clear message about understanding others.
Michael B. Jordan’s voice performance remains the emotional core of the film, lifting a simple story into something heartfelt and engaging.
