Singer Wangari Wa Kabera speaks after being accused of stealing primary school water tank

Popular Mugithi songstress Florence Wangari Maina, professionally known as Wangari Wa Kabera, has addressed allegations that she stole a water tank belonging to a local primary school in her community.

Speaking in a video shared on TikTok on Saturday, January 17, 2026, the artiste revealed that the water tank was found on a road near her residence and that claims suggesting it was being delivered to her home are completely false.

The singer explained that she has never stolen anyone’s property since birth and has always maintained a clear conscience regarding other people’s possessions.

“Ever since my mother gave birth to me, I have never stolen anyone’s property, nor have I ever purchased items that were stolen. Now I am asking myself why, because a water tank was found on the road near my residence, people are claiming that it was being brought to my home,” she said.

Wangari added that on the night the tank was discovered, she was asleep at her residence with her mobile phone switched off and charging.

She recalled that police officers arrived to investigate, took photographs of the tank, and confirmed that it remained on the road and had not been placed within her property.

The artiste revealed that when she opened her shop the following morning, the tank was still on the road, and she observed that it appeared to have been dragged rather than delivered by a vehicle, which indicated that she had no connection to the incident.

“On that day, officers came to the area while I was asleep, and my phone was switched off and charging. They took photographs of the tank and remarked that it was not at my home but on the road. Later in the morning, when I opened my shop, I found the tank still on the road, and it appeared that it had been dragged rather than delivered by a vehicle,” Wangari said.

The artiste disclosed that she immediately contacted the local chief’s husband early that morning to report the tank.

She recalled the chief’s husband informing her that some persons of interest had fled while others claimed the tank was being brought to her residence.

The artiste emphasised that she did not request the tank and that her property is secured with a proper gate, making the allegations entirely unfounded.

“I immediately called the local chief’s husband early that morning to report the tank, and he told me he was aware of the matter. He explained that the incident had occurred during the night, that some suspects had fled, and that a drunk person who had been arrested with them claimed the tank was being brought to my residence. I am not a thief, and the tank was not intended for my home,” she said.

Court battle

The singer, who recently lost her mum, further revealed that the matter proceeded to court, where she was recorded as being involved with others in stealing government property valued at Ksh60,000.

She added that she is scheduled to appear in court on January 23, 2026, to address the charges.

“The matter went to court, and the records wrongly stated that ‘I, Florence Wangari Maina, was caught with other people stealing a tank, which is government property valued at Ksh60,000.’ Because I did not steal the tank, I denied the allegation. Another court date has been set for January 23, 2026, when I will return to hear the charges,” she shared.

The artiste, who expressed frustration over the circulation of false claims, reiterated that she has never stolen anyone’s property and will never do so.

She added that those spreading the allegations should consider why, if she had truly requested the tank, it had never been brought into her homestead, yet her gate was just close by.

“I have never stolen anyone’s property, and I will never do so. That is why I ask those spreading these claims: if I had truly requested the tank, why was it never brought into my homestead, given that I have a proper gate?” Wangari said.
