Ringtone Apoko slams Guardian Angel in fiery rant

Veteran gospel musician Ringtone Apoko has openly criticised fellow gospel singer Guardian Angel, calling him a failure and questioning his contributions to the industry and society.

Speaking in a video shared on his Facebook page on Sunday, December 7, 2025, Apoko claimed that Guardian Angel has fallen short of the responsibilities expected of a gospel artiste, particularly in addressing societal issues through his platform.

“Guardian Angel, you are a failure. You have failed the gospel music industry. What is the role of gospel artistes?” Apoko lamented.

Apoko singled out a recent tragic incident in Kilimani, where a young man fell from a high-rise building and died, claiming that Guardian Angel should have led the nation, especially gospel artistes, in prayer.

Instead, he argued, Guardian Angel treated the incident like any ordinary news story, responding as a regular citizen rather than a spiritual leader expected to guide the community in faith during troubling times.

Apoko described this approach as a stark failure to embody the influence and responsibility inherent in gospel ministry.

“At a time like this, when we hear reports about a young man who fell to his death in Kilimani, you should be at the forefront, mobilising the nation and gospel artistes to pray. Such events are not normal, yet you treat them like ordinary news,” Apoko added.

In his critique, Apoko also addressed Guardian Angel’s foray into farming and football, questioning the necessity of these ventures when Kenya already has sufficient farmers and youth football initiatives.

He framed these activities as distractions from the core mission of gospel ministry, emphasising that they do little to address the urgent needs of the community.

“Instead of looking at things with a spiritual perspective, you see them as regular people do. You have failed. Now we see you farming, even though Kenya already has enough farmers, and playing football, yet the Harambee Stars don’t even have opportunities for everyone. This is why I say you are a failure,” he added.

God’s servant

The shade comes just weeks after Guardian Angel announced that he plans to build a church before the end of the year.

The ‘Wakati wa Mungu’ hitmaker shared the announcement on Instagram on Saturday, October 4, 2025, saying he was not seeking financial support from his fans or followers but only their prayers as he begins the project.

In his post, he wrote that God had been exceedingly good to him and that his heart was set on honouring that goodness through the construction of a place of worship.

“I am going to build a church before the end of this year. Mungu amekuwa mwema sana kwangu. Siombi mchango wenu, maombi pekee inatosha,” the post, written partly in Swahili, read.
