Obinna reveals plans to take Majembe and Mbavu the Destroyer to meet Ruto

Media personality and event organiser Oga Obinna has announced that he will officially take fighters from the recent Vurugu Fight Night, including Majembe and Mbavu the Destroyer, to the State House to meet President William Ruto.
Taking to his Instagram on Monday, April 6, 2026, Obinna revealed that Ruto personally called to commend the successful organisation of the event. Noting that Arrangements are now being made for the boxers and key participants to visit the State House.
He explained that while the president had pre-planned engagements, he gave the go-ahead for the meeting after recognising the positive impact of young people organising such a major sporting event.

“I also got called by the president. He said, ‘Good stuff. It’s a good thing that the young people are doing.’ Thank you so much, Mr President,” Obinna said.
Obinna further cautioned Kenyans against politicising the planned visit. “When I take the boxers to go and meet the president, especially Kenyans, do not politicise the whole thing,” he said. “We are going to the State House to meet the president. I want everybody who was in the ring, everybody who made it possible, and the RNJs, the referees, the judges, the waterboys, the corner boys… do not politicise that visit.”
Gratitude for a historic event
Obinna used the live session to thank Kenyans for making Vurugu Fight Night a resounding success. He described it as the biggest sporting activity in boxing in East and Central Africa, the most anticipated, highly attended, and most publicised.

“We showed the world that it is possible to come from nothing to something. Kenyans can organise something by themselves, for themselves,” he said. “We paid for this … no politician got involved, and it was beautiful.”
He praised fans who bought tickets, partners and sponsors who believed in the vision, and everyone who contributed to the electric atmosphere at the arena, noting that he is still “pinching himself” at the achievement.
Next boxing event
Obinna shared that Majembe is scheduled to face a Somali boxer in the next Nairobi event, while Alfayo will also feature.

He addressed the controversy around the Majembe vs Mbavu the Destroyer fight, explaining that judges awarded Majembe a unanimous decision as he had built a clear points advantage before the stoppage. “Mbavu himself admitted in the ring that he had been beaten and could not continue,” Obinna said.
“That’s a different conversation you guys can now have in your spaces,” he added, closing his Instagram session with gratitude and optimism for Kenyan boxing.
