Ni uchungu sana: Mosiria moved by Nairobi man taking care of sick mum

The plight of a young man taking care of his ailing mother in Nairobi has moved Geoffrey Mosiria, the Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement, appealing to well-wishers to intervene.

Mosiria was moved after learning that the young man, who has no one else to help him take care of his ailing mother, who is also paralysed, has a younger sister who lives in a children’s home.

In a statement on his Facebook account on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Mosiria shared a video of the young man taking care of his ailing mother, accompanying it with a financial appeal.

“Please help this young man take his mother to hospital. She is paralysed and unable to walk or work. He is the only person taking care of her.” Mosiria stated.

“He also has a 9-year-old sister who is currently in a children’s home, as he has no one else to help him,” he added.

Responsibilities that moved Mosiria

Mosiria highlighted some of the responsibilities that the young man has taken up, listing bathing his mother and changing her diapers among the roles.

“Imagine how painful it is for a son to bathe his own mother, change her diapers, and turn her at night whenever she needs assistance.” He continued.

According to Mosiria, the family needs Ksh500,000 for her medication, an amount they have been unable to raise given their humble means.

He appealed to well-wishers to support the family.

“He is trying to raise KSh 500,000 for her medication. Ni uchungu mkubwa sana. Kindly help him.” Mosiria added.

Mosiria explains his actions

The Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service has been using his social media accounts to rally well-wishers to support other Kenyans who have opened up about why he often shares rescue stories on social media.

Mosiria clarified that his actions are meant to inspire action to save lives rather than chase clout, as has been alleged by his critics.

“When I document these stories, it is not for publicity, but so that someone, somewhere, may be inspired to see, care, and step in to rescue another child from getting lost in the streets, where many fall into harmful paths,” he explained in a statement shared on his official social media platforms.
