Nadia Mukami: My mum once abandoned her military career to raise us

Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Saturday, March 21, 2026, the ‘Radio Love’ hitmaker shared that after giving birth, her mother paused her army service to focus on raising the children before eventually returning to her career.
Nadia described the decision as one of immense dedication, highlighting the long journey her family undertook to reach where they are today.
“My mum gave birth to us and had to temporarily leave her career in the army. She had to give it up to raise us and take some time to care for us at home. After that, she went back to continue her army career,” Nadia stated.
She explained that her family has always celebrated special occasions in a respectful and presentable manner, noting that some old photos of her as a child that went viral online captured a simpler life in the village.
“So as a family, we also actually celebrate a lot. When it’s family and special occasions like those, you dress up in a decent and respectable manner. I cannot dress the way I do for an interview or for a show,” she said.
Nadia said these moments show how far they have come and the blessings that have followed along the way.
“That old photo of me as a child that went viral online, that was when I was growing up, and at that time, we were living in the village, and life was just the way it was. Along the way, though, blessings came through, and this shows that so many of us have come from very far away. So when you see someone shining and receiving love and recognition, it means the journey has been very long,” Nadia stated.
Beyond family memories, Nadia spoke about her personal achievements, noting that she has quietly accomplished a great deal behind the scenes.
She reflected on the opportunities music has provided, including reaching milestones she had once dreamed of, like owning a Range Rover, something she had always aspired to achieve.
“For me, my greatest achievements are the things I have been able to accomplish behind the scenes; I cannot mention some of them here. The things I have built through music have allowed me to reach milestones I once dreamed of. You also see that I drive a Range Rover; that has always been my dream,” she explained.
