Muthoni Mukiri explains why life feels better in 30s

By , February 4, 2026

Counsellor and mindset coach Muthoni Mukiri has opened up on how turning 30 transforms life compared to the 20s, bringing clarity, confidence, and a calmer perspective on priorities.

Speaking about the pressures young people often face on her Instagram page on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Mukiri highlighted the contrast between the expectations of the 20s and the stability of the 30s.

“Your 20s can feel carefree, but they also come with intense pressure,” Mukiri said.

Mukiri noted that in your 20s, the pressure to achieve milestones like marriage, career success, or buying a home can feel overwhelming, even if others see you as young and vibrant.

“You’re thinking about careers, relationships, achievements… and for many women, there’s this constant worry about hitting milestones like marriage, buying a car, or settling down. That pressure can make your 20s feel overwhelming, even when people say you look young and beautiful,” she said.

Confidence in the 30s

Mukiri explained that the 30s bring a quieter, more grounded form of confidence.

“Once you hit your 30s, you’ve gone through life’s ups and downs, and you start understanding what really matters. You take care of yourself better, you know your limits, and you operate from a place of clarity. There’s less comparison, less pressure, and more focus on your own growth,” she highlighted.

As a counsellor, Mukiri emphasised that this period is ideal for self-reflection and setting intentional goals. She encouraged young people not to rush through their 20s trying to meet societal expectations.

“It’s about learning, failing, and growing. By the time you reach your 30s, you can make decisions from experience rather than fear.”

She noted that embracing one’s 30s allows for stronger boundaries, healthier relationships, and a more authentic approach to life.

For Mukiri, life in the 30s is not about regret over missed opportunities in the 20s but about leveraging lessons learned to create stability, confidence, and fulfilment. “Your 30s are not a deadline; they’re a decade of empowerment,” Mukiri noted.
