Msiwai simp tena: Matata crew slams men who chased IShowSpeed in Nairobi

The Kenyan-Norwegian music and dance group Matata has criticised men who were seen cheering and chasing after American streaming star IShowSpeed during his recent Nairobi tour.
In a statement shared on their official Instagram account, the group commended the organisers of the tour, IShowSpeed’s Kenyan tour.
However, they did not hold back in calling out local men, warning them against what they described as “simping” over the global streamer.
“Shout out to whoever organised IShowSpeed’s Kenyan tour. Authenticity won. But weh, majamaa msiwai simp hiyo design tena,” the crew said, highlighting that admiration should not cross into excessive or unnecessary behaviour.

Charlie Jones
Apart from Matata, Charlie Jones also criticised the behaviour of adult men, he says, who went overboard during American streaming star iShowSpeed’s visit to Kenya.
iShowSpeed, real name Darren Jason Watkins Jr., arrived in Nairobi on Sunday, January 11, 2026, to begin his “Speed Does Africa” tour. The visit has drawn massive crowds and global attention, with thousands following his livestreams across the city.

Charlie said he understands why younger fans are excited about Speed, but he was shocked by the behaviour of older adults. He described grown men lining up for photos, pushing for autographs, and pleading for attention from the 20-year-old streamer as “extremely embarrassing.”
He noted scenes of men shouting, jumping, and even handing over large sums of money, all to get Speed’s recognition. Charlie questioned the lack of shame among some grown men and called for fans to maintain dignity, even when meeting global celebrities.

“What the Kenyan government has done with speed is what China did too. Any opportunity you get to sell what’s good in your country, do it. Kids chasing speed and doing all he does on stream is understandable, but grown-ass men forcing to be in line for a photo or handshake and all that is extremely embarrassing
We got grown men hitting C notes, shouting, jumping up and down. grown ass men. I’ve seen grown men say, “Tell me you love me,” “Recognise me im your biggest fan” A man pushing 30 to a 20-year-old “Sign here” Pushed, ignored, slapped and still chased him all day. What happened to shame?” Charlie stated.
