The Diplomat season 4: Netflix reveals premiere date
By Paulette Mboga, August 17, 2026Award-winning political drama The Diplomat is set to return for its fourth season on October 15, 2026, with Keri Russell reprising her role as US Ambassador Kate Wyler.
The new season will continue the story of Kate, her husband Hal Wyler and the political challenges surrounding them.
The upcoming season follows the events of season 3, where Kate’s marriage to Vice President Hal Wyler appeared to be moving towards a better place. However, Kate soon begins to suspect that Hal and US President Grace Penn may have worked against her.
First Gentleman Todd Penn also notices the growing closeness between Grace and Hal, adding another problem to the complicated relationships at the centre of the series.
Kate faces new political and personal battles
Creator, showrunner and executive producer Debora Cahn explained that season 4 will focus heavily on Kate, Hal, Grace and Todd. She said the four characters will find their personal relationships becoming harder to manage because of their public and political roles.
“This season is built on the foursome that is Kate, Hal, Grace, and Todd,” Debora Cahn said.
Cahn explained that the two couples will become closely connected as their relationships change. She said the growing bond between Grace and Hal will also bring Kate and Todd closer as they deal with the situation.
“They’re two couples strapped together in one car on a crumbling roller coaster,” Debora Cahn said.
The season 4 teaser also shows Kate trying to save her marriage to Hal despite the growing problems between them. She tells him that she is not trying to leave the marriage but wants to find her way back into it.
“I, Katherine Wyler, take you for better or for worse, worse, and worse,” Kate says in the teaser.
Beyond their personal struggles, Kate will also face a major political crisis. A devastating event threatens the fragile peace she has helped build between the United States and the United Kingdom.
At the same time, Grace and Hal are involved in a plan involving Russia’s most powerful weapon. Their actions could push the United States closer to war, leaving Kate and Todd to work together to prevent the situation from getting worse.
The fourth season is expected to continue balancing political tension with the complicated relationships between its main characters when The Diplomat returns on October 15, 2026.
