Millicent Omanga issues statement in fluent Dholuo after meeting Orengo and other politicians

With the political season gathering pace, politicians from across the political divide are deploying every resource at their disposal to win public support and push their agenda.

Using other languages to pass the message to supporters is a strategy that politicians often turn to, and Millicent Omanga found the same useful on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

Omanga, who has declared interest in succeeding Esther Passaris as the Woman Representative for Nairobi County, met a host of opposition politicians, including Siaya Senator James Orengo and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino.

She took to social media after the meeting with a brief statement, written in fluent Dholuo to confirm her political stand.

En mana wantam kende,” Omanga wrote, declaring her commitment to a vision shared by opposition politicians who have made their intention to deny President William Ruto a second term.

This loosely translates to: “It is only wantam”.

Wantam is a phrase coined by the opposition in reference to their resolve to make Ruto the first president to serve one term in Kenya’s history.

She shared photos of their meeting in a series of tweets, with the political slogan “wantam” featuring repeatedly.

Omanga, who was at one point a close associate of the head of state, severed ties with the president and joined the Linda Mwananchi political formation that is opposed to Ruto’s reelection bid.

She declared her stand in a statement posted on her social media platforms on Thursday, February 19, 2026, noting that the initiative is in the interest of all Kenyans.

It’s about the people,” the former senator declared, sharing a poster showing her among other leaders who were expected to camp in Kakamega on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Race to succeed Passaris in Nairobi

The declaration came shortly after she joined the race for Nairobi Woman Representative with nominated senator Karen Nyamu, activist Hanifa Adan, social media personality Corazon Kwamboka and blogger Maverick Aoko also eyeing the seat.

“Many people have been asking what my plan is for 2027. I will be on the ballot for the Nairobi Women Representative position. I will be with my people. I hear you, and we are together in this,” she stated on Friday, February 6, 2026.
