Light moment as Kartelo takes Ruto through ‘Sheng’ class

Content creator and media personality Nick Chege, famously known as Kartelo, shook the internet after a video of himself teaching President William Ruto ‘Sheng’ went viral.

This came after the content creator found himself on stage with the president at Kasarani Stadium during the disbursement of business start-up capital to beneficiaries on Monday, January 19, 2026.

“Nataka ujue jina ya sheng ya pesa, ama sijui kama unajua? Inaiwa kichele. Ukiongea na mayouth unawaambia, leo mtu ataenda na kichele nyumbani.” Kartelo said.

Loosely translating to “I want you to know how we call money in ‘Sheng’. I don’t know if you already know it. It’s called ‘kichele’. When you are speaking to the youth, tell them, ‘Today everyone will go home with ‘kichele.’

The president, who started off curious, wanting to learn, could not help but burst out laughing the whole time as Kartelo explained.

Kartelo’s journey as an artist began with raw curiosity and an unshakeable need to express himself. Growing up surrounded by everyday struggles, street stories, and vibrant local culture, he found art as both an escape and a voice.

His early work was unpolished but honest, reflecting personal experiences and emotions that resonated deeply with those who listened closely. Even when resources were limited, Kartelo relied on passion, discipline, and belief in his craft to keep creating.

As his skills developed, Kartelo started refining his sound and identity. He experimented with different styles, learned from setbacks, and used criticism as fuel rather than discouragement.

Each project marked growth—not just technically, but emotionally and creatively. He began to understand the power of storytelling, using his art to inspire, challenge, and connect with a wider audience while staying true to his roots.

Today, Kartelo’s journey stands as a testament to resilience and consistency. He represents the idea that success is not instant but built through patience, sacrifice, and self-belief.

Still evolving, he continues to push boundaries, sharpen his message, and elevate his artistry. Kartelo’s story is not just about where he has reached, but about the determination to keep growing and leaving a lasting impact through his art.
