About Niko Kadi Initiative

The ingenious initiative was launched by Kenya’s youth on social media to marshal those who have not registered as voters to do so.

Activist Willie Oeba and Allans Ademba, who are among those who championed the Niko Kadi initiative on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, camped in Kasarani, where more than 600 people registered as voters.

The challenge started gaining traction on TikTok and has since spread over to other social media platforms, with the hashtag #NikoKadi now being pushed to urge Gen Zs to come out and register as voters.

Mixing humour with civic education, Kenyans turned to social media to rally others to turn up for the ongoing exercise and make their voices count at the ballot in 2027.

Celebrities join

Kenyan musician Fidel Shammah, popularly known as Charisma, is among those backing the initiative.

According to Charisma, the question of whether one has registered as a voter should come first in any conversation, whether at a club, a university, or a community gathering.

He emphasised that this is a pivotal moment for the country, and citizens must act responsibly.

“Are you registered?? This should be the first question you ask anyone. A talking stage, at the club, at the universities, at events, at chamas. Any meet up! This is a pivotal moment for us as Kenyans.” Charisma said.

Cop Shakur, who is eyeing the Westlands parliamentary seat, also shared a viral skit showing a lady being asked to go and register as a voter before she could be served food in a kibanda.

Media personality Adelle Onyango has also backed Niko Kadi and lauded Kenya’s youth for leaving nothing to chance in their quest to make their voices and numbers count at the ballot.

“Personally, individually, as myself, niko kadi. So proud of all the Kenyan Gen Zs leading the push for Kenyans to register to vote.” Adelle stated.
