Kenyan hotelier Harriet Akinyi thanked Kenyans for the overwhelming support they directed towards her and her business.

In an interview with local media houses on Wednesday, January 22, 2026, Akinyi could not withhold her joy as she explained how much Kenyans’ support meant to her.

She explained that she could not believe the rate at which Kenyans mobilised and came out in huge numbers to respond to her call for assistance in her viral video.

“Thanks to Kenyans, I did not know I would go viral. I did that video out of hopelessness and to show people that I believed I was not the only one.” Harried said.

She went further to say that the situation was very bad, to the extent that she did not have anyone to ask for assistance because everyone she asked was also going through something.

“From the first week of December up until I posted the video, things were really bad. There was a time I could come to the hotel at 6 am, cry, then go back home and tell my employees I would be late,” she said.

Harriet came into the limelight after a video of her ranting went viral on TikTok. In the video, she spoke about how things were rough with her business and that after investing millions, she was broke and could not afford to run the business any longer.

At some point in the video, she said that she was contemplating suicide and welcomed anyone willing to save her.

“All I have is Ksh37 and Ksh33 in my bank account and Ksh4 in my Mpesa,” Akinyi revealed.

“Imagine today is Monday; I’ve locked myself up in this shop because I don’t even have money to run this place for even a day.”

“I have even wondered if I should hang myself in this shop or in my house. Please, guys, I ask anyone willing to buy this business to come and save me,” she said.
