Karangu issues update after Kenyans raise Ksh1.7M for Kikuyu singer facing auction

Kigooco singer and social media influencer Karangu Muraya has provided a detailed update on the fundraising campaign to assist fellow musician Gachathi wa Thuo, who is facing the auction of his house and other assets over an outstanding bank loan.
In a post shared on Facebook on Thursday, December 11, 2025, Muraya revealed that, together with Thuo’s brother, they visited the Murang’a bank, which Thuo owes, seeking an extension to clear the debt.
He revealed that through the support of artistes, friends, and fans, they were able to deposit Ksh1.7 million to partially settle the loan, with an additional Ksh300,000 pledged, bringing the total expected contribution to Ksh2 million.
“Together with my brother Gachathi wa Thuo, we have visited the bank at Murang’a town this afternoon seeking the extension of the period to clear the debt. By the grace of God, we have been able to deposit all the money that you have supported our brother with, which totals 1.7M,” Karangu wrote.

Muraya highlighted that a remaining deficit of approximately Ksh1 million plus auctioneer fees still exists, but he expressed faith that God would provide the remaining support.
He then extended heartfelt gratitude to all those who had contributed generously, listing key supporters, including Peter Thuo, Jose Gatutura, Joy Wa Macharia, Samidoh, Uria Wari Cukura ya Nairobi, Sir James Kenyan, Dennis Itumbi, Regina Wa Anganiwe, Waithaka Wa Jane, Moses Kuria, Kogi Investor, Muigai wa Njoroge, and all committee members and fans who participated in the initiative.
“We are still waiting for the pledge of 300k, which will make it a total of 2M…. The total deficit will be 1 million plus auctioneer fees that we are still trusting God that He will provide 🙏 God bless you all for supporting this man…continue sending whatever you have to (0727564752 Peter Thuo). Jose Gatutura, Joy Wa Macharia, Samidoh, HSC, Uria Wari Cukura ya Nairobi, Sir James Kenyan, Dennis Itumbi, Regina wa Anganiwe, Waithaka Wa Jane, Moses Kuria, Hon. Kogi Investor, Muigai wa Njoroge,” he wrote.
Muraya prayed blessings over everyone who supported the cause and encouraged continued contributions to help Thuo fully settle the debt.
“And all committee members and fans, God bless you all. May you all never lack,” he added.

Emotional appeal
The update follows Muraya’s initial call for solidarity on December 8, 2025, when he urged both secular and gospel artistes to rally behind Thuo, who had stopped performing in clubs after dedicating his life to Christ.
Muraya explained that Thuo’s decision had led to financial challenges, including a bank loan that he could not fully repay, resulting in the repossession and sale of his personal car.
The musician’s home, located in the same compound as his parents’ house, and his acre of land, valued at over Ksh20 million, were at risk of being auctioned over a Ksh3 million balance.
“Sometimes, Life is so challenging….my brother Gachathi wa Thuo received Christ as his personal saviour some years back. As a matter of fact, before then, he was doing so well on his Mugithi, but the first decision that he made was to stop performing in clubs. Having made such a decision, his new route came with a lot of challenges, and he was unable to settle his bills, one of them being a bank loan that he took from one lending institution,” Karangu wrote.
Muraya’s initiative encouraged the artistic community and fans to contribute financially or offer practical advice to help Thuo navigate the crisis.
He had proposed that if 3,000 supporters contributed Ksh1,000 each, Thuo’s debt could be cleared promptly.
“Dear artists…both secular and gospel… Gachathi wa Thuo is one of us. I have an idea, if 3000 artists and fans decide to support him with 1k only, our brother will settle the loan before the end of the day,” he said.
