Jose Chameleone undergoes surgery

Veteran Ugandan musician Joseph Mayanja, widely known as Jose Chameleone, has undergone successful surgery in Kampala, Uganda.
In a statement on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the singer revealed that he was rapidly losing his sight in the right eye and sought treatment, with doctors recommending the surgery.
“I was rapidly losing my sight in my right eye. I seek your healing as always, my Lord,” Chameleone said.

He was admitted to a hospital in Uganda, where the surgery was performed.
Successful surgery
The singer shared a photo showing him recovering in the hospital and conveyed his gratitude to the team behind the successful medical procedure.
“I thank you, Lord, for another great morning!! I thank Dr Ludovica Tindebwa and the entire Kampala Eye Lasik Hospital team for my eye surgery and your hospitality.
The singer ushered in a new chapter last year, revealing that after years of indulging in smoking and drinking, he has now chosen to leave them behind as part of a new phase in his life.
“I have been flipping some bottles, enjoying myself. I have been a smoker all my life, but for the sake of myself and my health, I put that aside. I do not smoke anymore; I do not drink anymore,” Chameleone said.
Changes in Chameleone’s lifestyle
He clarified that the decision to change his lifestyle was not only about personal health but also about his spiritual journey.
“People must know that I am a God-fearing person. I am a believer. I put God before everything; before the doctors did their job, God did his own. God was the first healer. I have been praying to God to be a better person, and this time around, I came to God and prayed for others. I was not the only one in the hospital,” the singer said.

He added that with his age also advancing, there was the need to slow down as he embraces the next chapter.
“God has given me two episodes, the first round in the past, and now we are starting the second round. I am just three years away from 50 years; I have to slow down,” he added.
