Jeff Mwathi’s mum marks his birthday with emotional message 2 years after his demise

Jeff Mwathi’s mother, Ann Wacuka, has marked her late son’s birthday with a post reflecting on how life continues without him.
In the post shared on Facebook on Friday, December 19, 2025, Wacuka reflected on how birthdays, once moments of joy and celebration, have become reminders of what was taken too soon.
She focused on the memories Jeff left behind, describing them as beautiful and permanent, living on in the hearts of those who loved him. Even in grief, she acknowledged the love that continues to surround his name and legacy.
“On your special day, we celebrate the beautiful memories you left behind and the love that still surrounds us 💔,” she wrote.
She expressed how difficult it was to let the day pass without celebrating alongside her son, noting that the pain of missing him has not softened with time.
According to her, words remain insufficient to fully describe the depth of that loss or the quiet ache that accompanies each milestone he is no longer physically present to share.
“Thinking of you, especially today on your birthday and wish I could’ve celebrated with you. I can’t even put into words how I’m missing you,” she added.

Wacuka also reflected on gratitude for the time she had with her son, the moments they shared, and the memories that now serve as both comfort and heartbreak.
She conveyed that while nothing can replace the space Jeff left in her life, those memories remain a source of strength even as they underscore the finality of his absence.
“I’m so grateful for the time we had together. Nothing can ever fill the gap you left but knowing you’re at peace is a heartbreak,” she added in a separate post.
In her reflection, she acknowledged the belief that her son is now at peace, but made it clear that this thought brings mixed emotions.
She lamented that while it offers some solace, it does not erase the heartbreak of losing him or lessen the daily reminder that he should still be here.
“Though you’re not here to blow out the candles, your light continues to guide us every day,” she added.

Untimely demise
Jeff Mwathi died on February 22, 2023, after falling from a building at Redwood Apartments.
At the time, he had been at the residence of DJ Fatxo, a detail that has remained central to investigations and public interest surrounding the case.
Following investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, authorities concluded that Mwathi’s death was inconclusive, with suicide presented as the most probable explanation.
Detectives said they were unable to establish criminal liability against six individuals who were present at the apartment on the night of the incident.
The investigation file was later forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions, leaving the final decision on prosecution or closure of the case in the hands of the prosecution.
However, Jeff’s mother, during an interview in May 2023, expressed dissatisfaction with the investigative process, maintaining that unanswered questions remain.
She has argued that the circumstances surrounding her son’s death, including the location and delayed reporting, warrant deeper scrutiny.
“I do not agree with the findings of the inquest into the death of Jeff Mwathi. I believe that justice must prevail and all parties involved must be held accountable for their actions,” Wacuka said.
