Geoffrey Mosiria tells Nairobi residents not to let fake witch doctors take their money
By Paulette Mboga, January 6, 2026Nairobi County government Citizen Engagement and Customer Care boss, Geoffrey Mosiria, has warned Nairobi residents to be cautious of the growing number of witch doctors in the city.
On Tuesday, January 6, 2025, he said many of them have started putting up posters and advertisements promising love potions, male enhancement remedies, and wealth.
“Kuna complaints ambazo tumepokea kutoka kwa wananchi wa Nairobi ambao wanasema wanganga wamekua wengi. Daktari wa miti shamba ambao wameweka mabango, advertisements kila mahali. Wengine wanasema wako na dawa za mapenzi, wengine wa kuongeza nguvu za kiume, wengine za utajiri. Mbona hao wasitafute pesa wakue matajari. Wakaaji wa Nairobi, be careful,” he said.

Mosiria added that many of these individuals are conmen who “mysteriously” know people’s weaknesses. He cautioned residents against falling into their traps.
“Don’t trust the many witchdoctors who are suddenly multiplying like mushrooms after rain. Many of them are conmen, and somehow, they all mysteriously know your weaknesses,” he said.
Operating in secrecy
According to Mosiria, genuine witchdoctors would not operate in secrecy. He questioned why some operate at night and post their services like thieves escaping a crime scene.
“Be careful not to fall into their traps. If they are genuine, why do they operate in darkness? Why do they sneak around at night putting up adverts like thieves escaping a crime scene?” he asked.

He explained that the answer is simple: most are illegal, and some are full-time con artists taking advantage of unsuspecting people.
Mosiria encouraged anyone claiming to be a real herbalist or witch doctor to operate openly.
“If genuine ones truly exist, then come out openly! Put up your adverts where everyone can see them, pay for your business properly, obtain the relevant licenses, and operate in daylight like normal human beings,” he said. He emphasised that transparency and legality are key for trust and credibility.
He also reminded residents that promises of quick love, wealth, or strength often hide scams. Mosiria urged people to verify credentials and be cautious before paying for any herbal or mystical services.
Nairobi residents are advised to question anyone operating in secrecy, check licenses, and avoid paying for services that seem suspicious. He said protecting oneself from fake witchdoctors is essential to avoid losing money and falling victim to scams.
