Full details of musician Njeru Thiga’s illness requiring Ksh3M for India treatment
Popular Kikuyu musician Peter Njeru Thiga has been diagnosed with a serious intestinal growth that has begun affecting his liver, according to his family.
The development was made public during a Facebook livestream on Saturday, December 13, 2025, where a family representative spoke on behalf of Njeru and his wife, Njambi, providing a detailed explanation of the medical situation and the urgency of treatment.
The representative explained that Njeru underwent a series of comprehensive medical tests at the German Diagnostic Centre in Kenya, where doctors confirmed that the intestinal growth is cancerous.
“We have come to inform those who love his music and those who have been blessed by his songs that Peter has been diagnosed with a growth in his intestines, which has started affecting his liver. After all the tests at the German Diagnostic Centre in Kenya, the doctors confirmed that the growth is cancerous,” the representative said.

The family emphasised that they were sharing the information publicly at this early stage to ensure that treatment could begin immediately, while Njeru still has the strength to travel for specialised care.
They highlighted the importance of acting promptly to avoid future complications and regrets associated with delayed medical intervention.
“We are addressing this matter early so that we can seek treatment in time, while Njeru still has the strength. We do not want to wait until it is too late and later regret not asking for help sooner. Our goal is to start treatment now, while he is still able to undergo the necessary procedures,” she added.
Following this, Njeru’s wife, Njambi, provided a detailed account of her husband’s long-standing health struggles.
She explained that Njeru had endured recurring stomach problems for several years, which were often misdiagnosed as digestion-related issues.
“My name is Njambi, Njeru’s wife. My husband has suffered a lot, not just for one year, but for many years. He was often advised to eat roughage, and I would prepare it for him. It would help for a while, but the problem would always come back,” she said.
Temporary measures, such as preparing special meals or juices and dietary adjustments like increased roughage, provided only short-term relief. These efforts, while helpful at the time, did not address the underlying cause, and the symptoms repeatedly returned.
She described the gradual progression of the illness, noting that the discomfort and recurring symptoms had persisted for years but had never been fully understood or treated until the recent tests confirmed the growth was malignant.
“We have been struggling with this illness quietly, and we never informed family members because we did not want to burden or stress them. This cancer diagnosis has shocked us deeply. We never imagined it would come to this, and I am still in shock,” she added.

Singer Karangu Muraya, who also spoke during the livestream, provided additional context about the rapid progression of the cancer, confirming that the family had just received the full medical report detailing the speed at which the growth was spreading.
“Let us pray for Njeru, and thank you to all the artistes who have supported him, including Shiru Wa GP, Loise Kim, Ben Githae, and Martin Wa Janet. Many people were not aware that Njeru has been suffering from cancer. We believe God will intervene in this case,” Karangu said.
He addressed the financial requirements for treatment, stating that the family is seeking to raise Ksh3 million to cover the costs of specialised medical care in India.
“Tonight, we are declaring that Njeru is not going anywhere. He will not die. He will go to India and return. We believe that three million shillings is not a lot of money. If people contribute even Ksh1,000 each, the amount can be raised, and he can travel to India as early as next week,” he said.
