Fashion trends that should stay out of 2026

Fashion in 2026 is all about effort. Clean lines. Sharp fits. Intentional choices.

The era of “I just threw this on” is slowly being shown the door, and honestly, it’s about time. While comfort will always matter, some trends have overstayed their welcome and are now holding personal style hostage.

As we head deeper into 2026, here are a few fashion habits that deserve a polite but firm goodbye, forever.

Crocs

Let’s start with the most controversial pair of shoes in the room. Crocs were ugly when they first appeared, and that truth has aged beautifully. They’re bulky, plastic, full of holes and surrounded by years of jokes, memes and irony dressing. Yes, they’re comfortable. Yes, they’re practical. But style-wise? They are ugly.

They work for taking out the trash, a quick grocery run or maybe a lazy Sunday at home. What they don’t work for is everyday city life. Yet walk through the CBD, and you’ll spot Gen Z rocking Crocs with oversized jeans, tiny tops and a lot of confidence. Like…?

They’ve turned them into a statement, but even then, the shoe still drags the outfit down. Wearing Crocs doesn’t feel like a bold fashion move. It feels like giving up halfway.

Light-wash denim

Denim will never go out of style, but not all denim deserves a seat at the 2026 table. Light-wash jeans, especially faded and distressed ones, feel stuck in another era. They carry strong 90s mom jeans energy, which now reads more dated than cool.

Fashion right now leans toward polished, structured and intentional looks. Light denim often feels too casual, too relaxed and slightly unfinished. The rips, frays and faded patches don’t help either. Darker washes and clean cuts simply look sharper and more current, making light-wash denim an easy trend to leave behind.

Chunky shoes

Once loved for their boldness, chunky shoes have officially worn out their welcome. Oversized dad sneakers, heavy platform soles and thick lug shoes all weigh down an outfit. Instead of elevating a look, they interrupt it.

With fashion moving toward cleaner silhouettes and better tailoring, chunky shoes clash with the flow of fabric and ruin the balance. They also feel out of sync with the more refined vibe 2026 is offering.

Flip flops

Flip flops are not fashionable. They are convenient. They belong at the beach, by the pool or in your bathroom. Comfort is important, but rubber slippers don’t belong in most public spaces, especially not in the city.

They instantly make an outfit look careless, no matter how good the rest of the look is. There are plenty of stylish, comfortable alternatives that don’t look like you forgot to finish getting dressed.

2026 fashion is asking for a little effort and a lot of intention. It’s not about suffering for style, but it is about knowing when comfort crosses into carelessness. Saying goodbye to these trends isn’t about being harsh. It’s about making room for a cleaner, sharper and more confident personal style.
