Cukura ya Nairobi’s emotional prayer to God 7 years after transforming from a street kid

Facebook influencer Dennis Njuguna Wakeru, popularly known as Cukura ya Nairobi, has made a deeply emotional prayer to God, calling for protection, justice, and support for children still living on the streets, seven years after he himself escaped the hardships of street life.

In a Facebook video on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Cukura reflected on his own journey from life as a street child to becoming a successful artiste with a stable home, a family, and the ability to provide for his loved ones.

“My prayer for this year, oh God, is that You remember the street kids who have nowhere to go and who always sleep outside, those who are seen as having nothing and suffer embarrassment by day, who don’t have anyone to feed them. I also pray for those children who have died and whose mysterious deaths the government has not investigated because they have no spokesperson. God, I know they may lack a spokesperson, but You can be their voice,” he said.

He highlighted the struggles that street children face daily, from hunger and homelessness to the lack of someone to advocate for their safety or seek justice when tragedies occur.

“If it were other people who died and not these children, justice would have been served. But because these kids have no one, and many are orphans after losing their parents, please be with them and remember them,” he shared.

Cukura also spoke about his personal experiences on the streets, describing the distress, hardships, and suffering he endured before God lifted him out of that life.

“When I lived that street life, I never knew You, God, and we endured a very hard life. We suffered greatly in the streets, but You lifted me up. Oh God, please lift them up as well,” he said.

He shared that his own transformation, from living in severe poverty to being able to feed himself, reunite his siblings, and even build a home for his mother, was evidence of the power of faith and divine intervention.

“If You could lift me, someone who can now eat well, sleep in a good house, have a family, build a house for my mother, and reunite my siblings after many years as a street child, then You can do so much for the street kids too,” Cukura said.

Through his prayer, Cukura expressed a desire to become a leader and defender for street children, using his platform and influence to advocate for their well-being and to ensure that they have someone fighting for their rights.

He urged God to empower him with the strength and capacity to uplift these children, just as he was uplifted years ago.

“I also know, God, that You have the power to make me their leader, giving me strength and the ability to defend them. That is my prayer for this year,” he said.
