Kenyan dancer, choreographer and musician Collo Blue is steadily evolving from a viral dance sensation to a recording artiste, marking a new phase in his growing influence across the country’s entertainment industry.

Collo Blue, whose real name is Collins Njuguna, first rose to prominence through his energetic choreography on TikTok and Instagram, where he built a reputation for turning songs into nationwide dance challenges.

He has also been featured in various musicians’ music videos.

Over time, his influence grew beyond dance, positioning him as one of the key figures shaping how Kenyan music spreads in the digital age.

Music transition

His transition into music has been highlighted by the success of his breakout track Burukanga, a high-energy song that quickly gained traction online and sparked a viral dance challenge across social media platforms.

Collo Blue has since taken a major step in his music career after joining Sol Generation Records, the label co-founded by Sauti Sol member Bien and known for nurturing some of Kenya’s most influential contemporary artists.

His signing signals growing industry recognition of his potential as a full-fledged musician beyond choreography.

“Welcome to the family @colloblue_udc . He is a multi-talented choreographer, singer and performer making serious waves in the Kenyan music scene,” the label wrote.

“From the breakout hit Up Burukanga ft. Addeh Prince to the infectious Wakiuliza ft. Fathermoh, Collo Blue is bringing a fresh sound and unstoppable energy. Keep your eyes on this one. The wave is just getting started.”

The release and popularity of Burukanga have also contributed to his growing visibility in Kenya’s entertainment scene, further cementing his dual identity as both dancer and musician.

However, his rise has not been without controversy, with discussions around creative ownership and the origins of Burukanga sparking debate within the entertainment industry.

Despite this, Collo Blue continues to maintain a strong digital presence and remains one of the most visible young creatives in Kenya’s evolving music and dance scene.

As he expands deeper into music, Collo Blue represents a new generation of Kenyan artists who are blurring the lines between dance, content creation, and recording artistry, building careers powered by both creativity and viral culture.

Genesis of artistic work

Collo began his dancing journey in 2016, right after completing Form 4, drawing inspiration from a church dance crew named UDC.

His artistic path led him to Kenyatta University, where he continued to hone his craft, even dancing alongside Willy Paul’s dancer, who played a crucial role in shaping his skills after the UDC crew disbanded.

Additionally, he is the founder of the Cluster Dance Company, known for its high-energy performances blending creative dance moves with Kenyan music.
