From child star to Hollywood fame
Born Hayden Lesley Panettiere on August 21, 1989, in Palisades, New York, she was introduced to show business at a very young age.
Her mother, Lesley Vogel, was a former soap actress, while her father, Alan “Skip” Panettiere, was a New York City firefighter.
Panettiere appeared in commercials as an infant before landing her first television role at just four years old on One Life to Live. She later appeared on Guiding Light and voiced Princess Dot in Pixar’s A Bug’s Life.

Her breakthrough on the big screen came in 2000 when she played Sheryl Yoast in Remember the Titans alongside Denzel Washington.
The role that made her a star
In 2006, Panettiere landed the role that would define her career: Claire Bennet in NBC’s superhero series Heroes.
As the cheerleader with the ability to heal from injuries, she became one of the show’s most recognisable characters. The series ran from 2006 to 2010 and turned Panettiere into an international star.
She later appeared as Kirby Reed in Scream 4 and Scream VI, while also taking roles in films including Ice Princess and Bring It On: All or Nothing.

From 2012 to 2018, Panettiere starred as country singer Juliette Barnes in Nashville. The role allowed her to combine acting and singing, with Panettiere performing many of her character’s songs.
Her performance earned her two Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actress.
Life marked by personal struggles
Away from the screen, Panettiere openly discussed her struggles with addiction, postpartum depression and an abusive relationship.
She was previously in a relationship with Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko, with whom she had a daughter, Kaya Evdokia. The couple later separated.

Her younger brother, actor Jansen Panettiere, died in 2023 at the age of 28.
In May 2026, Panettiere released her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, in which she reflected on growing up in Hollywood, her personal struggles and her journey toward recovery.
Despite the difficulties she faced, Panettiere remained a familiar face to audiences around the world, remembered for the characters she brought to life in Heroes, Nashville and the Scream franchise.
