The father of Juja TikToker Derrick Omollo has made an emotional appeal for help from Kenyans as his family comes to terms with the loss of his firstborn and only son.

Derrick was laid to rest on Friday, September 18, 2026, at his family home in Marani, Kisii County, in an emotional burial attended by family members, friends and those who had known him during his short but remarkable journey as a content creator.

Speaking during the burial ceremony, Derrick’s father revealed that the late TikToker was his eldest child and only son, leaving behind two younger sisters who are still pursuing their education.

“As a parent, I have three children, and Derrick Omollo was the eldest and my firstborn. And he was also my only son. The ladies are two, and they are still in school; they are yet to complete,” his father said.

The grieving father said the family was now praying for strength as they faced life without Derrick while continuing to support his two younger daughters through school.

He appealed to relatives, friends and other well-wishers to come to the family’s aid, explaining that the tragedy had placed them in a difficult financial position.

“But we are praying to God that as we move on with grief, we get strength to keep supporting the rest of the children so they can also get a good education,” he said.

The father acknowledged that life had become difficult following the sudden loss of his son, saying the family had reached a point where it needed support to continue meeting its responsibilities.

“And we need help from friends and relatives and all who may want to help us because life is not very easy. If any tragedy happens like this, it gets to a point and you come short in a way and us we are at that point,” he said.

His emotional appeal came as mourners gathered to give Derrick his final send-off, with the burial marking the end of a painful journey that began with his sudden death in Juja.

Derrick’s body had been transported to Kisii on Thursday, September 17, after leaving General Kago Funeral Home in Nairobi, where his family and friends had gathered earlier in the morning for prayers and body viewing.

Videos shared by his friends showed family members and friends waiting at the funeral home before the body was viewed and later placed in a black hearse for the journey to Kisii.

Some of Derrick’s relatives were seen breaking down in tears as they prepared to accompany him for his final journey home.

His death had earlier been linked to a tragic incident in which he fled after a group of attackers confronted him and four friends while they were out for a walk.

Derrick ran towards a quarry as he attempted to escape from the attackers, with his friend and fellow TikToker Mildred later confirming that he died after fleeing towards the quarry.

The circumstances surrounding his death left his friends and fellow content creators struggling to come to terms with the loss of a young man whose social media career had been gathering momentum.
