Singer Joshua Baraka’s father dies

Ugandan Afrobeats and R&B singer Joshua Baraka has confirmed the death of his father, Pastor Okello Lawrence Habalu.

Baraka shared the news on his Instagram page on Monday, June 8, 2026, posting an official death announcement alongside a video showing a warm conversation between him and his late father.

“It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Pastor Okello Lawrence Habalu,” the notice read.

In the announcement, Pastor Habalu, born on May 2, 1969, is described as “a man after God’s own heart,” a tribute reflecting his long service in ministry and the impact he had on his community.

“He will be dearly missed by family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by him. We give thanks for the life, love, and memories shared. He was a man after God’s heart,” the notice read.

It is also stated in the announcement that Pastor Habalu passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the age of 57.

According to the notice, a church service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Kamwokya Church of God in Kampala, starting at 3:00 pm.

The burial is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in Kayunga, Bugerere Kitimbwa at 2:00 pm.

Baraka has previously spoken about his roots, revealing that his father was Kenyan from Busia County and grew up in Eldoret before relocating to Uganda, where Joshua was born.

The singer’s Kenyan-Ugandan background has played a role in shaping his identity and musical journey across East Africa.
