Media personality Willis Raburu has spoken about the pressure many men face in modern society.

He explained that men are now struggling with different expectations placed on them in relationships and daily life. According to Willis, many men are trying to balance several roles at the same time.

“For a while, there has been some sort of identity crisis for the man,” Willis Raburu said during an interview on Monday, May 25, 2026.

He explained that society expects men to be protectors, providers, leaders, and spiritual guides at the same time. Willis said these expectations have continued to grow over the years. He added that social media conversations have also changed how many people view the role of men.

“Because on one hand you want the protector, you want the provider, you want the priest, which is another P., and then you want an overall leader,” Willis explained.

Willis said the role of providing financially has now become the main focus in many relationships. He explained that many people now measure men based on money and financial ability. According to him, this has created confusion and pressure for many men.

Changing relationship expectations

“Over the period of time, especially with this time of social media spaces and everything, the provider is the one who has taken the stage,” Willis Raburu said.

He also spoke about the common conversations around money in relationships. Willis explained that the idea of “my money” and “our money” has become more common today. He added that while providing is important, there are other things that also matter in relationships.

“The famous my money, my money and your money, our money sort of thing,” Willis said.

Willis, who has been vocal in calling the government over the country’s economic situation, explained that people sometimes forget the importance of the partnership between couples. He said relationships should not only focus on financial support from one person. According to him, teamwork and understanding are also necessary.

“It is not wrong for a man to provide, but there is another pillar that people forget, which is partnership,” Willis explained.

He said many men now feel conflicted because they are expected to carry many responsibilities at once. Willis added that society continues to place heavy demands on men every day. He explained that this pressure is affecting many men emotionally and mentally.

“Now this man is conflicted, he is providing, being the leader, the demands being placed on them by society …which puts a lot of pressure on the men,” Willis Raburu said.
