Peter Salasya unveils plans to visit White House from time to time once he becomes president
By Steve Ireri, September 24, 2026Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has unveiled an unusual plan for his political future, saying he intends to visit the White House from time to time once he becomes Kenya’s president.
Salasya made the remarks in a TikTok video on Thursday, September 24, 2026, as he continued documenting his tour of the United States.
The legislator had just arrived in New York after travelling by train from Washington DC, where he said he had been attending sessions on artificial intelligence and technology inventions.
He described the journey between the two cities as a long one, revealing that he spent about three hours on the train before arriving in New York for his scheduled engagements.
He also told his followers that his US itinerary was not ending in the city, with New Jersey and Philadelphia among the other destinations he planned to visit.
“Just arrived now in New York after a very long journey, three hours on the train from Washington, DC, to attend my sessions on artificial intelligence and tech inventions. I will later be in New Jersey and Philadelphia,” the MP said.
While in New York, Salasya turned his attention to the White House, pointing out the building as he spoke to his followers about his surroundings.
He noted that the White House ballroom was only a few metres from where he was standing, using the sight of the landmark to reflect on his own political ambitions and where he hopes his career will eventually take him.
“As you can see, the White House ballroom is just there, a few metres from where I am,” Salasya said.
The legislator then linked his proximity to the White House to his long-term political aspirations, saying he believed he would one day return to the iconic US building in a senior official capacity.
Salasya went on to suggest that he could eventually rise to Kenya’s presidency, describing the kind of president he hopes to become in terms of the mark he would leave on the country.
“And one day, I know I will come to visit the White House, and by that time I will be a senior official in Kenya. Maybe I will be a president, a very serious one, unlike one who has ever existed in the history of Kenya,” he said.
Salasya also used the moment to speak about his vision for Kenya, saying he wanted to see the country achieve greater economic progress. He argued that the country was approaching a period when young leaders would need to step forward and take responsibility for transforming the economy.
“We are going to make Kenya big and great because the time is coming, and Kenya is calling for leaders who are going to transform the economy of the country,” the MP said.
The Mumias East legislator further outlined the kind of leadership he believes Kenya needs, stressing that leaders should focus on the interests of citizens rather than concentrating on public relations. \
He said such an approach should take into account people across different generations and economic circumstances, including young people, older citizens, hustlers, the middle class and those from lower-income backgrounds.
“Not based on public relations, but having the interests of Kenyans and of those who do not have, the young people and the aged, the hustlers, the middle class and the lower class,” Salasya said.
The MP then called on young leaders to recognise the responsibility he believes comes with being part of a younger generation in politics.
He said young leaders should step forward and play their part in addressing the country’s challenges and shaping its future.
“We, the young leaders, must stand in the gap,” Salasya said.
