‘Pesa ya mwanaume ni tamu’ – Jovial opens up on dating and financial provision

Kenyan singer Jovial has shared her honest thoughts on relationships, money, and what women really look for in a partner. The singer believes that no matter how financially stable a woman is on her own, there is a completely different feeling that comes with a man taking care of the bills.

Speaking in an interview with a local media station, the artist explained that a woman having her own money does not mean she should not enjoy financial support from her partner.

She feels that a man who provides willingly brings a unique kind of happiness and comfort to a relationship. In her own words, “Hata ukuwe na pesa aje, pesa ya mwanaume ni tamu,” showing that the gesture carries a special meaning regardless of a woman’s bank balance.

Man’s support hit different

This perspective speaks directly to many everyday Kenyans navigating modern dating. Today, more women are working hard, running businesses, and comfortably paying their own rent and bills.

However, Jovial highlights that the desire for a supportive partner who handles responsibilities is still very important to women.

For her, enjoying a man’s financial care is not about being broke or lacking options. Instead, it is about the effort and the security that comes with a partner stepping up. She believes it simply adds a sweet, fulfilling layer to the romance.

Struggle of finding genuine love

Apart from the financial side of relationships, the singer also opened up about the personal challenges she faces when looking for love as a celebrity. She revealed that fame makes it hard to build authentic connections because many suitors approach her with high expectations based on her public profile.

Unakuta kuna mwingine ana expectations fulani, they don’t love you because I’m Juliet, they love you because I’m Jovial,” the singer stated.

The musician explained that there is a big difference between her stage life and her private life. While fans know her as Jovial the star, she values her quiet moments at home where she drops the celebrity status, becoming Juliet or Mama Soilah.

“At the end of the day I’m also human. Pia mimi nataka kupendwa. Unajua, ni tofauti kukuwa mimi ni Jovial, let’s say. When I’m at home, mimi ni Juliet ama mimi ni mama Soilah.”

She admitted that dealing with these high expectations is a major challenge because, at the end of the day, she is just a human being who wants to be loved for who she truly is.
