Oga Obinna jokes about ‘Ugali-Waru’ food combination

Oga Obinna has amused his followers with a humorous take on the changing ways Kenyans are combining familiar foods, joking about the emergence of what he called ‘Ugali-Waru’.

In a light-hearted voice note, the comedian opened by greeting his audience and asking, “Mko wapi? Mko wapi? Mko wapi? Ni pull up,” before turning his attention to the unusual food combination.

‘Ugali-Waru’ raises questions

Obinna jokingly questioned whether people were simply going to pretend they had not noticed that waru was now being mixed with ugali.

“Are we just going to pretend like we don’t know that they are currently cooking ugali and mixing it with waru?” he asked.

He said the combination was called ‘gojagoto’ although he repeatedly appeared unsure of the exact name, saying, “I think, gojagoto.”

He then described how the meal is prepared, saying, “Wanaeka maji, wanaeka waru, waru inachemuka na hiyo maji, wanamwaga unga wanaidhuwalo.” He joked that the next development would soon be ‘Ugali-Waru’.

“Yeah, inaitwa gojagoto ama gojagoto ama gojagoto,” he added, continuing to poke fun at the name.

From Blue Band to Sambusa

Obinna then expanded his joke to other food combinations, recalling how people had previously started putting Blue Band in ugali.

Kwanza wanaanza na kuweka ugali Blue Band, tukanyamaza, tukajifanya hatujui,” he said.

He then turned to Sambusa, joking that the snack had also undergone several changes.

Sambusa, hata sasa tusianze na sambusa. Sambusa, hata sasa watu wanaharibu sambusa. Sambusa was sambusa when sambusa had a life. Beautiful,” he joked.

According to Obinna, the changes started when people added meat to sambusa. He said people initially accepted the change, only for more ingredients to follow.

Kidogo kidogo tukajifanya tumezubaa wakarusha jahe ndani. Kidogo waru,” he said.

He went on to joke about waru being added to sambusa, creating a situation where someone could bite into the snack and unexpectedly find a piece of potato.

Intervention needed

The comedian continued listing other additions, joking that eventually “githeri” and cabbage also found their way into sambusa.

Githeri ndani ya sambusa yao. Cabbage. Sambusa cabbage,” he said.

He joked that Kenyans had remained quiet through the changes, saying they had chosen to “mind our business” because sambusa was not their native food.

However, he said the situation had now gone too far with the combinations entering ugali.

But sasa hizi wameanza kuingia ndani ya ugali. Somebody, please,” Obinna concluded, before humorously asking: “Wale watu walikuwa wanaandamana na masufuria kwa kichwa wako wapi?”
